I have the exact same problem. And its the first time ive tried to add Mp3s since the last time i plugged it into my machine and it said "new firmware upgrade needs installing" So i let it do it. Been rooted ever since. Perhaps their new firmware is bad.

I have a new computer, the USB2.0 excuse is wrong.

Gday...the most likely issue concerning the "USB Disconnected" message on the U3 is that the device has installed itself with incorrect drivers. If this is the case then following these steps should rectify your problem...

1) Plug the MP3 player into the USB port
2) Open up Device Manager (Start, Settings, Control Panel, System, Hardware, Device Manager)
3) Find Samsung UP-Y3 in the list (should be under "Other" or "Portable devices" with a ? next to it)
4) Right click on this and select Uninstall
5) Remove the player from the USB port and plug it back in

Windows should automatically detect the device and install it's own drivers. If not, and you have a driver disk, then just install the Samsung drivers. You should now be abe able to drag and drop files onto the player using Windows Explorer. Hope this solves the issue.

Cheers,
Scott

I agree with solution 3. After trying 3 different players on many computers (some already set up for the YP-u3 and working), I have now got rid of it and replaced with a different one.

I can now enjoy my music!

Windows media player 11 works.... download that and it will work for you first time

  • Anonymous Mar 09, 2008

windows media player 11 is the only thing that works... try just un-installing the samsung media studio because that doesn't work at all.... then the version 11 should work with it

  • Anonymous Apr 20, 2008

all i can suggest is downloading windows media player 11, it works 4 me fine now

I suggest that you sell the player and buy a new one, preferably not samsung :D

I searched all over the net and found no solution
many ppl say that it works with other version of winxp

OK now this is how i did it it might not work for every one but it worked for me. 1st make sure you have windows media player 10 or better installed 2nd you connect it and wait till it gives you that disconnect screen then after that go to control panel then printers and other hardware after that hit add new hardware the wizard will search for recently connected hardware. if you ever put music on it before hit yes i have already connected the hardware then it will have a list on the list it should have Samsung YP-U3 with a question mark next to it click it and hit next the wizard should do the rest it takes a while so don't cancel it it will get there hope this helps some people

I called the Samsung customer services helpline, and they told me that as my PC does not have USB 2.0, the player will not connect to it - basically, I need to get a newer PC. I really don't know much about the difference between USB 1.1 and 2.0, but looking up stuff on the internet seems to say that USB 2.0 devices should be backward compliant with USB 1.1 and that Windows XP (which I have on my not very old PC) will recognise USB 2.0 devices. So I'm not sure if I'm being fobbed off or told the truth here...
