Your Nintendo Wii can not properly read some portions of your Game Disk. The probable reasons are dirt on the lens or CD, or scratches on the CD. Try cleaning the CD using a soft cloth and clean the lens of your Wii console using a Lens Cleaner.

Console won't read disk. when disk in console, message comes up unable to read disk

If you are getting that message then there is likely 2 reasons.
1: is because your disk is scratched up or something.
2: your disk reader that is inside of your Wii Console is out of place.

We have just bought a wii game thru amazon.com and my son has put it in the wii console and it comes up with an error message saying it cannot read disk, have you any ideas what may be wrong?

try another game disk, if you get the same result, the laser inside may have burned out, if not, you should get a can of air duster and spray inside the disk slot, otherwise the game may be too scratched(if bought used) or unable to play with the firmware you are using

Is the disk dirty or scratched? This error commonly occurs when a damaged disk is unable to be read by the system. If your other games work, then the cause is likely the disk.

When a disk is inserted, error message says "unable to read disk".

You might either have inserted the disk the wrong way, flip it around. Or the disc is scratched/dirty The Wii might not also recognize the CD.

Hope this helps : )

When i put game in comes up disc error what do we do

If the problem exists with all disks, your problem is with the disk drive itself. Wii disk drive cleaning kits retail less than US 8$ and are your best solution in this case. They include a custom sized microfiber tool used to clean the laser reading lens inside your Wii disk drive. If you have trouble with just one disk, the disk you are using may be dirty, scratched, or defective. Try cleaning your disk with water and a soft cloth (Do not use a paper towel, it will just leave paper pieces on the disk.) If the cleaning does not help, look for scratches on the top AND bottom of the disk. The slightest scratch on the disk can cause a read error. If you have a scratch you can try a disk buffer. Some video and game rental stores offer a disk buffing service for a small fee, if buffing and cleaning do not work, your disk is most likely defective. Return the game to the store you purchased it from and ask for a replacement if possible.

My nintendo wii says an error ocurred when i put a disc in

first the obvious if ur new to wii.... make sure the picture side of the disc is the on the right side when you insert it (facing outwards)
"Unable to read the disc" / "Disc could not be read" / "Eject the Game Disc" Error Message
Playing Super Smash Bros. Brawl? Click here for specific help.
If you are getting one of the above error messages:

  • If your Wii console is laying flat, it may be positioned upside down. Ensure that is positioned right-side up: the game disc slot should be above all three buttons and the SD Card slot.

  • Ensure that you are properly loading a Game Disc.

dd0311d.gif
  • If your console is placed vertically, the disc label will face to the right.
  • If your console is placed horizontally, the disc label will face upwards
If you know you are inserting the Game Disc correctly, but are still have the same problem with only one game (or if you only have one game), try cleaning the Game Disc by following the disc cleaning procedures
Cleaning a Game Disc Fingerprints, smudges, and other foreign material can interfere with a game disc being properly read by the Wii console. Please use the information on this page to properly clean a dirty Game Disc.
Important Notes (please read first):

  • Use only: straight strokes when wiping the disc (do not use a circular motion).
  • Use only: a clean, soft, cotton cloth (do not use paper towels, facial tissue, etc.).
  • Use only: water (do not use soap or any other cleaning solution).

  • Do NOT use: solvents such as: benzine, window cleaner, paint thinner, anti-static aerosol spray or abrasive cleaners.
  • Do NOT use: machines designed to clean discs or remove scratches. These types of devices could damage the surface of the disc.
Properly cleaning a game disc:

  1. Dampen a portion of a clean, soft, cotton cloth, using only plain water.

  2. With the damp part of the cloth, use straight strokes and wipe the bottom of the disc (non-labeled side) from the inside rim to the outside rim.
  1. Using a dry part of the cloth, use straight strokes and wipe from the inside rim to the outside rim.

  2. After all of the water has been removed, let the disc sit for at least two minutes to completely dry before inserting it into the Wii console.

  3. Try to play the game to see if the problem has been resolved.
    • If the problem has been resolved, be sure to properly take care of your game discs by storing them in their plastic cases in order to help prevent your discs from becoming dirty or scratched. Storing games in cases other than the ones they came in, or storing them outside their cases, may damage the disc.
    • If the same problem continues, the cause is likely damage to the disc. Use the disc replacement policy to determine how to get your game replaced.
    • If the game never worked or you are discovering errors in areas you have entered for the first time, it is possible that the problem could be with the system or the disc. (The system may still be the problem even if the disc shows some signs of damage.) Please call 1-800-255-3700 to discuss possible repair options.
If you are occasionally experiencing disc read errors, you may want to consider purchasing the Wii Lens Cleaner.

If the Wii is having trouble with a disk, it means there's either a problem with the disk or the Wii. If your Wii can't read any disks then you'll want to contact Nintendo. Otherwise you need to investigate your disk. If you hold the bottom side of the disk to the light you should be able to see if there's a smudge or scratch. If it's a smudge, cleaning the disk will often fix the problem. I like to use the microfiber cloths used to clean eyeglasses or, short of that, a tissue. Just rub the smudged spot. (When using a tissue I generally steam up the spot with my breath first.) Don't exert more force than necessary; it's a flimsy disk, not a kitchen sink. If the disk looks good, put it back into the Wii and see what happens.
A scratch is more problematic. If it's a game you just bought, try exchanging it where you bought it. Otherwise you can try polishing out the scratch.

good luck...

When a disk is inserted, an error message comes up saying that it is unable to read the disk. We tried a disk cleaner which didn't seem to help. Any suggestions?

I would recommend that you take the console to a game store and get them to have a look at it, it sounds like there might be a fault with the CD drive or the laser not reading the discs properly

Unable to load games

I have a very similar problem that my wii console gives me black screen with disk read error every time I inserted a new disc that worked previously. The way I worked around this problem is by
1. ejecting the disc
2. powering off(hold the power button for about 10 seconds)
3. unplugging the power cord
4. waiting one minute or so
5. plugging in again and re-inserting disc
This worked every time when I switched disc.
