    the same

  • emerald52781 Jul 23, 2008

I've been having the same problem. I've had the player for over a year now and no problems until this. Originally, the player froze and I couldn't shut it down. I tried to reset it, but rebooting would not work. From that point on, it just restarted to the recovery screen. I then tried to clean up and format the player, but would still not go past recovery screen. I then went to the creative website and tried all of their suggestions to fix the problem. I ended up with a Firmware problem after trying to reload the firmware and now any firmware updates don't recognize my player. I've tried using another computer and still having the same problem. So frustrating...the player is now out of warranty and who knows how much it would cost to send it to them for repair.

Me too, I bought it 3 weeks ago now, but my computer doesn't recognize it's a Creative Zen Vision:M, but it does recognize something. I then tried to use it on some other computers, with Vista, with XP (updated computers). Still no fix. Then I tried to reinstall the Firmware, but now when I want to install new firmware on it (downloaded newest firmware from www.creative.com) it says I have to connect my player, but it already is connected...This really sucks man :(.

Dear All this problem is caused if the computer has windows media player 11 installed. I googled this for days trying to fix it - & was relieved when i finally sorted it - it's very easy. Just do the following.
Use a computer that has XP (either pro or home edition) (forget about vista....). go to add/remove programs - uninstall windows medi player - on my PC it does a roll back to WMP version 9. There's also a program called "Windows media format runtime 11" which comes with WMP11 & you need to uninstall this too - otherwise it still won't recognise the player.

Then restart your PC. Then make sure you have downloaded the lastest firmware version - just google it - trying to find the right one on the creative website is not easy - their website is poor - there are quite a few other places you can download it from.

Then I clicked the "reload firmware" option in the recovery mode (I had already deleted it 4 days ago). Then when your PC has restarted plug in your Zen, it should come up something like "MTP device recognised". Now when you double click on the firmware downloaded to install - it it will recognise the player & you can click the upgrade button. It does the upgrade & puts the firmware back on the ZEN. I got a message saying "firmware upgrade failed" at the end although when I started the player - it booted up as normal & I was able to reload & play my music.

This sure beats the "send it back to John Lewis, pay 60 quid & wait 6 weeks for it to come back " option - if like mine it's out of warranty

I realize that you put this up over a year ago, but for me it was a life saver. I am still holding on to my dated Creative Zen M 30GB and use it daily while driving 3000 miles a month and freaked out when I had this issue, but you helped me fix it and for that I thank you.

Hey. I had the same problem with my ZVM's firmware reloading. Here's what I did:
First, make sure that you have the latest version of zen vision: m firmware and the right version for the OS you're using. Download it at http://us.creative.com/support/downloads/welcome.asp?action=next
Make sure that your zvm isn't connected to your computer. Turn on your zvm. It should boot to the restore menu and will say there was a problem with the firmware. Now that its on, choose reload firmware. It should say it's erasing the current firmware. After that is done, it will show a message saying that you should upgrade the firmware by USB. At that point, connect the zvm to your computer. That's when the player should be recognized by your computer (unlike before). Next, on your computer, run the zen vision m firmware upgrader. Begin the upgrade and if it asks you if you want to upgrade even though the firmware version is the same, say yes. Once the upgrade has begun, your zvm should also say that it's upgrading. By the end, [on my computer] my zvm froze and the firmware upgrader froze also. The upgrading firmware message on my zvm also disappeared. At this point, disconnect your zvm from your computer and reset it using the reset button. On your computer, the upgrader should say the player is rebooting. When you start up the zvm again, it will start rebuilding and it should work again.

~Hope this helps. Thats exactly what I did when this happened to me and my player works again.

Make sure you have media player 11
If you can, the best test is to try your player with another PC, to see if you still have the problem. This localises whether the problem is with the PC (most likely the USB) or the player. See the link below (search on "connection problems") for a lot more troubleshooting on this.
Download recovery tool off creative's website.
go to my computer > click on hardware tab >
click on device manager button > in the is next screen on the bottom should have>>universal serial bus controllers
(write these down just in case it cant find them)
right click on them and uninstall
reboot let windows reinstall them

Also told Microsoft hotfix causes this problem try uninstalling the last hotfix
If that doesn't fix it try the USB cable

good luck
please mark the post with a fixya

I struggled with the stupid Zen Vision M 30GB for over six months, spending hours uploading, downloading, installing, uninstalling etc...and got absolutely NO WHERE! The problem started when things were deleted and i was down to hardly any music. Then i could not get my MP3 player to read in WMP 11, and couldnt add songs or synchronize it with my computer. Then i deleted my firmware, but could not reinstall it because it kept saying my device was not connected! It showed up in My Computer as Zen Vision M, but wouldnt read it to upload firmware. It turned out, all i had to do was install the firmware from another computer, you dont need the installation CD or anything, just go to the other computer and click on the latest firmware upgrade or this link:

http://support.creative.com/downloads/welcome.aspx?nDriverType=4&showdetails=1&bLatest=1

and click download, and open. Be sure to connect your MP3 device to the computer, and presto it should install the new firmware NO PROBLEMO!!!! I tried everything except another computer, and now i regret it, because i have all this **** on my computer, but oh well!

I've had the same problem for a day or so now. Went to Creative.com, followed the relevant links, downloaded the new firmware and hey presto, back to life!

SOURCE: zen vision m 30 g, firmware terhapus gimana

you can go to the Creative Website and download the latest firmware.
and the desktop software.
when you mount it on the computer you will be able to restore the software/firmware.

there are options in the players menu for rebuilding database and things before you restore to see if that helps.

My creative zen micophoto will not boot up what do

Hi.
You tried these yet?
Reset, Format or Clean Up a Zen Vision:M

If your player stops responding, you can reset it. To reset the player, push the end of a pin-like object (for example, a pin or straightened paperclip) into the Reset hole. This should not cause you to lose any data or audio tracks, unless you were in the middle of transferring an audio track.

To reset Zen Vision:M to factory default settings:

  1. Press on the Menu/Back button on your player, and select System, and then Reset. To Format or Clean Up Zen Vision:M Detach the Zen Vision:M player from your PC , and ensure that the unit is off.If the battery is too low, charge the battery fully before continuing
  2. Slide the Power switch towards the Power icon and hold the switch in the Power On position.
  3. Push the end of a pin-like object (for example, a straightened paper clip) into the reset hole, press gently and remove.
  4. Release the Power switch when the Creative logo appears. The Recovery Mode appears: * Clean Up (Performs a disk scan on the player's hard disk, it will not affect music files)* Format All (Formats the players hard disk - Note: all contents will be lost)* Reload Firmware (Reloads the Operating System on the Zen. Select this option ONLY if there is a firmware available to reload.)* Reboot (Reboots the device)
  5. Select Clean Up or Format from the Recovery Mode, and then select Reboot

My Zen vision: M is stuck in hold. Sliding the switch does nothing except make the hold symbol blink when slid all the way to the power on/off position.

Support for Zen Vision M on this site:
http://support.creative.com/Products/ProductDetails.aspx?catID=213&CatName=MP3+Players&subCatID=214&subCatName=ZEN&prodID=14331&prodName=ZEN+Vision%3aM
Enter the word "hold" in the bar Knowledgebase Solutions.
This will give you access to various answers.
One answer could be to do a recovery:

  1. Slide the power button towards the power icon and hold it in the Power ON position
  2. While holding on to the power button, Gently push the end of a thin object (such as a pin or straightened paperclip) into the Reset hole.

The reset button for your player is located at the bottom of the player, to the left of the sync adapter port.
  3. Release the power button when the Creative logo appears.
  4. The Recovery Mode screen appears, and four menu items are shown: Clean Up, Format All, Reload Firmware and Reboot.
  5. To clean up your player's memory, select Clean Up.

  6. When the cleanup is complete, select Reboot. Your player restarts and starts rebuilding its music library.

  7. Should the above solution is unable to resolve the issue, please install the player's latest firmware. To obtain further instruction on getting the firmware reload into the player, you can refer to the following article:

If a problem is occuring with the firmware, then just go onto the CREATIVE ZEN website /www.creative.com and select the model of your creative mp3 player.. once you have selected the modell it will then scan your mp3 player to check what it is required and then reccommends the downloads listed. However it is vital that your mp3 player is connected to your pc via usb lead.

Stuck in recovery mode--would love to avoid buying a new mp3

I had the same problem as your and it stopped working yesterday. After search for helps and now it is working again after I reloaded the firmware. But unfortunately everything is gone. You have to reload your musics again. You can try this out: 1) go to creative labs website to download the "Recovery Tool". 2) at Recovery Mode of your zen there are options: Clean Up, Format All, Reload Firmware, and Reboot. Try out Clean Up first if it still not working then try to Format All. After that try the Reload Firmware. After you done the Reload Firmware. 3) Shut down your Zen and try to connect it to your computer. Now your Zen will automaticlly power On and computer will recognize it as a drive. 4) Open the Recovery Tool you have downloaded at creative labs website. This tool will detect your Zen and follow it's instructions: It works with my windows Vista. Well, it works for me, I think it will work for your too. Good Luck!
May God bless.

.... from Creative's site

Reset, Format or Clean Up a Zen Vision:M If your player stops responding, you can reset it. To reset the player, push the end of a pin-like object (for example, a pin or straightened paperclip) into the Reset hole. This should not cause you to lose any data or audio tracks, unless you were in the middle of transferring an audio track.
To reset Zen Vision:M to factory default settings:
Press on the Menu/Back button on your player, and select System, and then Reset.
To Format or Clean Up Zen Vision:M

  4. Release the Power switch when the Creative logo appears. The Recovery Mode appears:
    • Clean Up (Performs a disk scan on the player's hard disk, it will not affect music files)
    • Format All (Formats the players hard disk - Note: all contents will be lost)
    • Reload Firmware (Reloads the Operating System on the Zen. Select this option ONLY if there is a firmware available to reload.)
    • Reboot (Reboots the device).
