The same happened with me, but here is what I did and it worked. I took the new battery out and set the setting on the bottom of the scale to Stone, put the battery back in. Now when I put the battery back in I made sure the plus on the battery was the last part to go in, it faced the part inside the casing that needs to be pushed back when you take out the battery. Once it was in I put the setting back to LBs and it worked. Don't know how but I was just as frustrated and it worked.
Solution: I had the same problem, the scale did not initially work at all after replacing the battery, even days later. This is what to do: Take out the old (or new) battery and wait at least 15 mins - I waited an hour. This will allow any residual energy to dissipate in the unit. Then put the new battery back in. The scale should be back in working order :) If that didn't work, follow these same instructions, but additionally flip the 'Kg / Lbs' switch on the bottom half-way through the waiting period- I hope this helps!

ensure the battery contacts are clean, if they are corroded it wont work. You may have to buy a contact cleaning spray or brush to do it.
