The solenoid cap is on the rear of the solenoid which is below the ribbon deck just inside the L. side frame of the printer, look below the blue rubber damper. We sell the cap including shipping and instructions for 20.00

Where is the TYPEWRITER SOLENOID on a IBM Wheelwriter 6 Series II

The "print" solenoid is what hits the hammer that hits the printwheel and makes it type on your paper. If you remove the ribbon and look straight down in the carrier on the left side you can see the solenoid. It is below the blue piece of rubber that sits on the hammer arm. The end of the solenoid is supposed to have a cap on the end of the plunger. This cap gives a specific clearance so when it is activated, it hits the hammer arm to propel it forward to strike the printwheel.

Replacing the print solenoid cap

The best way to find what you are looking for is to look at your printwheel. Right in the middle of the carriage there is a part that hits the printwheel. That is called the hammer. If you look down on the left side you will see a blue piece of rubber that attaches to the hammer. If you continue to look further down the hammer you will see the solenoid that activates and hits a screw that sticks out from the hammer. The end of the solenoid is where the "cap" can be attached. You do not have to remove the solenoid to install the repair "cap" if that is what you are really looking for. A technician can put in a new cap in less that 30 seconds.

Your print solenoid probably has a broken cap. There are some companies that sell the "kit" with instructions on how to replace the cap.
