A lot of things - like uneven floors, split or overlapping tiles - can cause the edges of carpet tiles to fray. But the single biggest culprit is heavy foot traffic. Years of constant walking and treading over them can cause the edges and corners of carpet tiles to come loose and be raised high enough for anyone to trip over. This eventually results in frayed edges and corners.

But the good news is the fact that carpet tiles are modular, and are thus easy to replace. This saves you the trouble of having to rip out the entire floor and only replacing tiles that have frayed edges. Carpet tile replacements are pretty easy to come by, especially if you opted for simple designs with very little to no patterns like the ones shown here . Frayed carpet tile edges and corners are a tripping hazard that ruins the look of any floor, so it's important that they be dealt with as soon as possible.

The edges do not have the support of other strands woven in. They are on the edge and all alone

Getting a wire under the carpet the easy way.

Ever tried to get a wire fished under a carpet but can't seem to get there without yanking half the carpet up to hide the wire ? (Warning, do not do this with wires that carry current! Power wires that get walked on can fray over time and cause fires if they short out!)

Go to the hardware store and buy one of those simple twisted wire drain snakes. The small diameter ones that look like a coiled spring that is at least twenty feet of so in length.

Lift the carpet just enough on the edge with a pair of needle nose pliers to start feeding the snake under the carpet.

Cover the small end of the snake with a small strip of electrical tape so it doesn't snag and start pushing it towards the place where you want the wire to run. You can change the direction of the snake by twisting it and pushing at the same time. When it gets to the other side pull the carpet up just far enough to grab the end of the snake with the pliers and pull it through.

Attach the wire you want to pull and tape it, then pull it back with the snake.
Finish up by sliding the ends of the wire under the base board with a small flat screwdriver leaving extra wire on both ends then shove the carpet back under the baseboard with the screw driver. Step on the carpet to catch it on the tack strips making sure you don't impale the wire on the nails.

Wire is hidden out of sight. Carpet isn't messed up, and you are done in a fraction of the time using half the wire.

Can I put laminated floor over my carpet?

Laminated floors are possible to install over virtually any type of floor you have although over carpets and especially high-pile carpets it is not advised.

96 Ram V6, changed the power steering pump and now can't get the belt to line up, fraying on the outside edg.

Hopefully, you did not install the pulley on the pump upside-down. (I have seen this happen before) Otherwise, the end of the pump shaft should be flush with the flange on the pulley. If it is off just a little one way or the other, it can cause fraying and severe belt noise.

Target wetsaw starts and runs fine. Half way through the tile the blade binds and the motor bogs down which trips the breaker. It does it every cut now. Never had an issue before. Tightened the belt, still...

First thing I would check is that the table is square to the blade. If the back edge of the table that pushes the tile through the blade isn't perpendicular to the blade the cut will start fine but as you go through the tile the table will be pushing the tile into the side of the blade and cause a huge amount of friction, making the motor work harder and eventually pop the circuit breaker.

Need to replace the tile in front of the fireplace

More than likely, you will need a grout saw to remove the grout are the individual tiles you need to replace. the using a flat bar, carefully try to pry the tile up to see if it will simply pop out. I would set a towet or padded object on the edge of adjacent tile to prevent chipping those tiles. If the tile pops out, you will need to scrap out all remaining mortar to create a smooth surface again so when you replace the tile, it will be level with the surrounding tile.
If a large area of tile needs to be replaced, there are automatic scraper machines that can be rented at some Home Depot stores or may be available for rent at carpet retailers that sell tile.
The main point to remember is that all mortar, tile pieces, and grout are removed and the surface is smooth and clean. Even the smallest chip of tile can cause future cracks if the tile is unlevel when pressure is applied.
Hope this is the type of information you were requesting and that it helps.

How to heat gun

When you remove old carpet from a room, you will most likely be left with remnants of glued-down backing on the floor. Getting the tile back to it's original smooth appearance can be a tedious task. You will need to make sure that you have a lot of patience and a lot of elbow grease. Start removing the glue by scraping the tile with a heavy-duty wallpaper scraper or a long-handled scraper. Do a quick sweep of the floor. Plug in your heat gun. Once it is heated up, you will want to place it at a forty-five degree angle to the floor and direct the heat on the remaining carpet backing. The carpet backing will loosen considerably as the glue begins to dissolve. The carpet backing will loosen considerably as the glue begins to dissolve. Use the wallpaper scraper to remove the loosened backing. Work in small sections. Once you have removed the carpet backing from the tile, wash the area with warm water and soap to ensure all of the glue and backing are removed. Continue until the entire tile floor is free of carpet backing.
