I have around $100 to spend on a used digital piano keyboard, and i know nothing about playing, but i would like to learn, like teach myself, i did at one point try to teach myself on a late 80"s Korg fullsize digital stage piano ( tons of effects, i loved it) but to my regret, i sold it for gas money... i know not to get a casio, but i would like an idea of later 80's or early 90's brands to keep my eye out for, i want something for more synth / effects, not stage use, but i would also like it to sound decent... any suggestions? roland? yamaha? korg? (again)

Call Yamaha at 714-522-9000 to find local dristubators/ liscend yamaha dealers. You may also visit the yamaha website.

Go into function and look for the volume setting for your main voice - could be R1. This will give a numeric value of 127 or less. It sounds like you need to increase it, try 100 as that is usually sufficient.

Haha yes - I know the feeling...fingers are nowhere near the keyboard the "BANG!" a note or a cluster of notes happens out of nowhere! :)

Easiest solution will be to take it in to our local Yamaha Dealer and have them clean the contacts. Dust and hair can get between the keys and cause all sorts of problems with the sensors/contacts.

I have learnt to clean them myself using a photographic blower brush, and if you're daring, give it a go. If not - don't risk it :)

Is it possible you have the wrong power adapter? Next to the power socket on the back of the keyboard it should say what voltage and how many milliamps it needs (eg: 9v DC 500 mA). You should find a similar rating on your adapter.

If the adapter doesn't quite produce enough mA the keyboard will happily sit doing nothing but shut off when you raise its power requirements by playing a lot of notes.

We're talking about audio recording. If so you must conntect your piano by using the L + R outputs with your sound card or mixer line inputs (that's how I do this). USB is ok if you want to use your piano as a master keyboard (MIDI). Another important thing is that you must have an additional application installed called sequencer ( for example Cubase Sx, Sonar...) which will let you store your digital music. I'm not talking about the proper settings of them because it could take a day or so...:)
Overall, you will have to learn a bit about the home studio, home recording techniques. There are tons of informations on web. A great thing is that you can use your CP33 as a master keyboard to control additional virtual instruments (VST) or for example play different piano samples (check Synthogy Ivory). Possibilites are endless!
