The motor has a themal switch that shuts down the motor f it gets hot. The problem you describe could be that. Also, if the bearings are failing and the motor is very hard to turn, it could be drawing too many amps and tripping the breaker.

I can smell the motor like it is running hot so I think the thermal switch is working fine. I think I need to understand why the motor is overheating. It has been in place with the present wiring for years.
