Brother 2170W "fails to associate"

I'm trying to set up this laser printer on a wireless network. Vista/Linksys Router WRT54GL. Security settings WPA2 personal / AES. The setup requires you connect an ethernet cable between the router and the printer for initial setup. Everything goes great.....the printer is "active" (small green circle around printer in tray icon), until it tells me to disconnect the ethernet cable. Then the printer immediately goes offline. Lots of folks seem to have this problem - nothing has worked for me so far. Thanks in advance.

Have you tried the SecureEasySetup method of connecting your HL-2170W to your wireless network?

Basically, it involves no wires:

1) Press the wireless setup button on the back of your printer (you may need to use a pen or pointed object)

2) Press the SecureEasySetup button on your router

3) Let the two sort it out - Green Go button on printer indicates success.

A complete guide for using the SecureEasySetup for your brother model:

I hope this helps!

How do i set my password on my linksys WRT54GL router

Turn over router and check in the bottom default access IP address and then type that IP address in to your browser. Then it shall ask you for ID and password. Enter `Admin` or `admin` as ID and `Password` or `password` as password. You will see a web based setup opened in front of you. Go to the Wireless Lan settings and then you will SSID so change the SSID and this would be your network`s name. Then go to subsection security and select WPA2-PSK or simple WPA-PSK then enter your desired network key. Once done with all these things the click apply and reboot if prompted.

Hi! I have a brother HL-2170W printer. It is connected via ethernet cable to a Dynalink RTA1046VW router (which is sitting on top of the printer) and I have a HP pavillion entertainment PC that is...

Hi!
Your Printer is connected to the (network) router via ethernet cable. Hence, it is a NETWORK PRINTER NOT A WIRELESS DEVICE, no matter your PC is connected to the network wirelessly. So, search for and install the printer as a NETWORK PRINTER. From the printer installation, it should searh and find the printer and susequently install the required drivers.
Moreover, you may checkout the followings link for instructions on how to install/ add a network printer.

Let me know if any further clarification/ assistance is required.
Hope it helps! Good Luck!

We just got two brother hl 2170w printers from a lab across campus, they were configured for a wireless connection and now we are trying to connect them to the network via a wired connection. the test page...

hi there, this should work for you:

When you disconnect an Ethernet cable from the printer, wireless network will be enabled.
On the other hand, when the Ethernet cable is connected to the printer, wired network is enabled.

If you press the Go button for approx. 13 seconds, the network setting page will be printed out. Then release the Go button, wired network will be switched to wireless network even if the Ethernet cable is still connected.

You can then verify your network settings and change between wired and wireless setups.

No IP address on Brother Printer

Hi, I am assuming that it works whn it is connected directly to your system, as you told that you got your printer replaced. And as you may know that connecting through CAT5 cable is the RECOMEND way..but thats what every1 else tell. So now, the 1st doubt that comes in my mind is about the OS you are using. The model you are using is compatible with Windows, Mac & Linux.
The 2nd possibility rises have you installed the appropriate driver for the printer you are willing to use and check your wireless settings too.
Now the 3rd possibility is that maybe there is something wrong with your router. Maybe you should make sure that the router is working properly.

Connecting new linksys n to our brother mfc685cw wireless printer. Printer will not read new linksys n router

Hi,

For isolation purposes, you may want to test the printer through the Linksys router via Ethernet cable and see if you can print if it is wired to the router. From there, configure the wireless printer to match the settings on your Linksys router. Once done, try printing again wirelessly.

Tips:
1. Make sure that they are on the same LAN segment. By default the IP address of the Linksys router is 192.168.1.1. so you may want to configure your printer using 192.168.1.2 for them to communicate.
2. Make sure that the wireless settings on the Linksys router match the wireless settings on your wireless printer. Check the SSID/Wireless Network Name and Wireless Security. All wireless settings should be the same for them to communicate wirelessly.
