Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. From what you have described it seems you may have had a door spring break. There several different door springs, but most, if not all dishwashers have 2 door springs. You will need to remove the lower access panels to get at the springs. They are fairly easy to get at and replace :-) This is a collection of some common springs used today, link is here.

Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.

Thanks

Before repairing the door springs, unplug the dishwasher or shut off the power at the fuse box or breaker panel to avoid an electrical shock hazard. The door opens and closes with the aid of springs. If the springs (or the cables that connect them on some dishwashers) break, the door will drop open hard. The door will also be heavier when closing. If the door drops open, it may also bend the doorhinges out of shape resulting in a door that does not close properly and possibly leaks. When replacing the springs or cables, all of them should be replaced at the same time. To access the door springs and cables remove the lower panel located beneath the door. The panel is usually held in place with two screws either above or below the panel. It may be necessary to first open the door to the dishwasher to get to the screws over the panel, then close the door to remove the panel. There are two common types of spring assemblies. One type connects the springs from a hook on the dishwasher cabinet of to a tang on the door hinge (as seen below). Dishwasher door came off spring and will not - 076b4f7.jpg
The other type of assembly connects the springs to cables which run through pulleys and connect to the door (as illustrated below). click on the link directly to get the picture http://www.acmehowto.com/howto/appliance/dishwasher/repair/doorsprings2.php You could try taking off the toeplate at the bottom and take a look at the spring. Sometimes you'll see a set of holes that one end of the sping goes into. Moving the spring to increase the tension might help but the spring is more for the balance and closing of the door than an adjustment. If the spring is too tight the door will fly back up when you open it. It's certainly worth a try. click this link directly to see how the dishwasher door can be removed or replaced from the dishwasher http://www.ehow.com/how_5046117_replace-dishwasher-door.html This will help. Thanks please keep updated.please do rate the solution positively .thank you for using fixya

THE LATCH IS READING THAT THE DOOR IS CLOSED BUT I CAN OPEN THE DOOR WHILE THE DISHWASHER IS IN CYCLE. WITH THE SPRING INDISE THE DOOR BEING LOCKED IT WONT EVENT LET ME FULLY SHUT THE DOOR! ANY HELP.

Hello friend, thank you for your post!
From what you have described the spring from the latch is broken inside of the door and you are unable to close your Frigidaire dishwasher. You would need to disassemble the dishwasher in order to replace the latch or spring. This needs to be done by a professional technician as improper disassembly could results in personal injury. I hope this information is helpful to you. -Matt

Broken door spring on kitchenaid dishwasher

Hello,

Please read our safety information before attempting any testing or repairs.
If the door drops open, it may also bend the door hinges out of shape resulting in a door that does not close properly and possibly leaks.

My dishwasher door wont shut

see this causes, and use the common sense. God bless you
When your dishwasher door has a problem, check these: Latch Springs Hinges Door seal Latch The latch on many dishwashers is adjustable. If your door is easy to close but difficult to latch, adjust the latch to let the door close more easily. If you can't see any way to adjust the latch, yours may be fixed in a certain position. Check for other reasons for the latching problem. If the latch has worn out in a way that makes it impossible for you to close the door properly, you probably need to replace the latch. Springs Your dishwasher has two springs that counterbalance the weight of the door. If either or both of these are broken, the door feels quite heavy and you need to replace both springs. Hinges The hinges are important to the door closing properly. If they're bent or deformed, you probably need to replace them. Once bent, only rarely can they be straightened well enough. Door seal If your dishwasher is new--or if you have just replaced a door seal--the door may be difficult to latch for a week or two. If the tightness persists, though, try adjusting the latch, if it's adjustable. If it's not adjustable, there's probably nothing you can do immediately. But try running the dishwasher on the highest heat cycle to help the seal conform to the door. Otherwise, the seal should compress over time.

The door on my dishwasher will not close

There are a few problems that can occur with the diswasher door assembly. These usually involve the latching mechanism, the door seal, the counterbalance spring assembly or the hinges. 1) The door latch plate can occasionally become out of alignment. Some door latch plates are adjustable, some aren't. If yours is adjustable, try loosening the retaining screws and repositioning the plate. It's trial-and-error, so have a lot of patience. If this doesn't work, then the latch needs replacing.
2) A new dishwasher or a newly installed door seal can be difficult to close for a while until the seal softens and compresses over time. You can try adjusting the latch, if possible.
3) If the door feels unusually heavy, there could be a problem with the counterbalance spring assembly. These counterbalance assemblies allow the door to open and close easier and are held by two springs. On some dishwasher models, holes are positioned in line so you can re-tension the springs by moving the spring hooks to other tensioning holes. If any of these springs break, they will need to be replaced as a pair.
4) The door hinges might be bent. They can seldom be adequately fixed and should be replaced.
hope this helps

Door open and closing problem

My dishwasher model DU3003XL0 has a similar problem. It happened yesterday. I had opened the door all the way, and then I heard a loud clunk sound. I suspect it is the spring mechanism in the door, and am ordering new springs, and hope to fix it myself.
Wish me luck.
