Take the pressure guage off and pour water in the hole untill it fills the pump, then screw the guage back on and cranck it up. You may have to do this a few times depending on how deep in the grownd the water is.
It is self priming if it's in water it should pump right away. If it has a foot valve on it you will have to fill the pump going into the water until it is halfway full then kick the pump on and it should prime itself and leave a water valve open so it will not pump air. Also if it is a two pipe jet pump if it does not prime the foot valve may be bad if you did add water to it already and it didn't work. Let me know if you need more info and I will look it up for you. Most pumps if they are underground would allow the foot valve to open up and fill the pipe up with water and work fine however if the foot valve is defective it would not. Look for a 1/2 pipe plug if the motor is mounted above ground or the pump is mounted above ground and fill the pump with water once it is full put the plug back in and it should pump right away, if it doesn't then you have an issue with junk in the foot valve or the foot valve is plugged or dirty. hope this helps.
