try to put person on speaker phone. If you can hear then your receiver is defective and if you can't hear then, follow instructions here. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1414.
Make sure to backup your phone before you do that.
Ensure you haven't muted your call. Press both volume buttons. If this doesn't work there may be a problem with your microphone. Also ensure your boom is fully extended.
It is probably a problem with person you called. His/her speaker might be malfunctioning or it could be signal related. Try calling that person again using another phone.
If you cannot hear the other person then, your the speaker may not configured inSkype. To configure thespeaker - Open Skype - Tools - Options -Audio Settings - Speakers select your audio card, check the volume slider THEN click on Save.
I have the same sort of problem...kinda..lol. My Vtech sorta 'cuts out' when there is noise at my hosue. The person I'm talking to can still hear me but I can't hear them. If my son starts crying or there's any other loudish type noises on my end, it's like the phone is trying to cutout my background noise, but all it's cutting out is the person talking to me. It's not that the noises in my house are loud and I jsut can't hear the person I"m talking to, b/c if i cover the mouth peice then no matter how loud the sound in my house is i can still hear the person i'm talking to but I HAVE to keep the mouth peice covered. It's really annoying!
are you sure that you microphone is working properly?
if yes then there must maybe some problems with your microphone port in your pc..
but try this though :
in the volume control menu ensure that the microphone is not set to mute
what else u can try is u can try the mic with the other port and still if it doesnt work, the other person is still not able to hear then try and do the voice chat with some one else and if the other person on the different chat will be able to hear u then definately the prob is with the other person's computer it is not with ur computer.
