There is a shock sensor in the phone and any slight jarring will turn it off to protect the circuitry (if you drop it good)... it may be annoying but it is a decent feature.
I just got mine a few weeks ago and it does the same exact thing (I didn't drop it, there is no water damage, I didn't understand the cause of it). I took it back to the Verizon store and I was told that the random shutting off like that is caused by having the phone outside being exposed to heat. He reset my phone back to factory settings and that did the trick for awhile (its hard for me to go to the pool and not have my phone exposed to the heat). There is no charge for them to reset the phone. Mine has started the random shutting off again back up
I have seen this issue alot. I don't know what carriers that you both have, but one answer that seems to come up alot is that when a certain carrier loses their network (another words if you have no bars on your phone, it shuts itself off. A friend of mine from T-Mobile says this is a problem that they have had for a couple of years. The solution is that Motorola gives you a one year warranty with their phones. Take it to your carriers' retail store and try to get new one. The downside is you might have pay for shipping. Whenever possible, when getting a cellphone, always get the insurance, for what I have seen, it's worth it.
camcorder when turned on flashes in red DEW and closes it self down. i have taken all the batteries out and replaced sometimes after a few days the camcorder will work then DEW will rea ppear and shut itself down
many of this problem are in the batery comparment, take of the batery and clean the batery terminal, then check the terminal batery conection in the cell if they are green thats the problem clean all and put the batery back...good luck
