Belt broke...need to know how to open the back

You need to purchase a Haynes Manual or better. They are very common in your nearest chain part store. Like Autozone, Advance, Napa. More than likely you will have to set the crankshaft at TDC. "top dead center" and allign the two marks with the cam shaft! Watch when you put tension on the belt it will move the camshaft sprocket! And throw it back out of time.

Sorry for this bad news but if the timing belt broke or jumped then you will need to pull heads due to bent valves.
When the timing belt breaks it leaves valves open or throws the timing off which causes the pistons to come up and hit and bend valves,
the only way to know how much valve damage and to repair is to remove the cylinder head or heads and see.

• Well, that belt drives everything including the water pump. When the belt broke and you drove it no coolant circulated and the exhaust glowed from overheating. A red glowing manifold usually only happens from excessive heat caused from modified engines. But in this case this is almost surely what happened. You are lucky you did not blow your engine. Park it and let it cool down for a few hours.

The part number for this belt is STD303310 and is available from Sears for $4.49. I would almost bet you that any good door opener service company in the yellow pages would have one on the shelf.

you will need to open the engine up if you can not turn the cam fully. something has been bent or broken or else it will turn. by breaking your timing belt was it shredded? if so you do have internal damage

Take off belt cover on the left side of the top cover, turn cleaner over, take out screw from red lock and remove, pull cap and brush roll out, unhook the cogged belt, then you can replace the pump belt thru that opening. Put belt over the pump pulley and stretched to go over the motor shaft. Then check the cogged belt and the cogged end of the pully to make sure that there are cogs, replace belt if there are cogss missing or belt is broke, if no cogs on the pulley, then you will have to replace the pump. Pulley only comes witht he pump.

opening back bearing - by 4 small scrows
push out the shapt holder
install the new belt
close every thing
start to work

There should be an access panel on the top side of the cleaner. Pry this open with a screw driver and this should get you access to the area where the belt can be changed.
