The only thing that you can do for your slimline is isolate the problem. For one thing, it could be a simple cleaning. Try placing some rubbing alcohol on one tip of a cotton swab and run it over the lens of the laser. Make sure to take the other end of the cotton swab and dry the lens afterwards (a wet lens is no good!). That does the trick most of the time. If that doesn't work for you, then you will need to be prepared to take your console apart and diagnose the issue or spend some dough to let an expert fix it for you.

You got a problem with the lasers data getting back to the Motherboard.
One of these could be your problem

First you need to define what it IS and IS NOT reading. You'll need to run some tests.
Test 1: use a regular music CD (NON BURNED) (RETAIL) disk and put that into your ps2 and see if it starts playing it.
Test 2: insert a regular DVD (NON BURNED) (RETAIL) disk and try to play that.
If neither will play then it is one of two things. Your laser lens is out of alignment, or your laser lens is damaged.
If one plays but not the other, it is the potentiometer pots on the back of the PS2 lens that need adjusting. You can read more about that on one of my other posts ::.HERE.::

HI, the optical lens assembly has failed in your unit. you will need to replace this failed assembly in order to restore the reading capabilities of this gaming console.

Well, first, if you're an amature who really has no idea what they're doing except messing with the default layout, chances are that when you unscrewed it you caused a disconnect somewhere in the system. Congratulations, you just voided your waranty and any chance of ever getting it professionally fixed! All that just to make your system cool, now all the other cool kids can join you in not playing PS2! Keep this in mind kid, if it's not broken, don't fix it. From the bottom of my black heart (I'm assuming by now you're pretty upset) I do hope it gets fixed down the road and I hope you learned a valuable lesson. P.S. This is submitted as a clarification request because I know you'd mess with my ratings if you were told the blunt truth; and to keep the chance of anyone ever getting back to you a reality.
