Acer AL1916W about 2 years old. Turned on this morning, desktop shows about 2 seconds then black screen. Turned off and back on, does the same. Switched out monitors and everything is ok, so it's not the computer. Any idea what's wrong?
constance67, Yes I do!! And so do a whole lot of other people. Not just electronic technicians either! 98 percent of my profile deals with just this kind of LCD monitor problem! You need to open it up and inspect the inside, first components to check will be the capacitors, look for caps with bulging top/seal, burnt parts, etc. Pictures will help a lot. See example of failed monitoirs due to bad caps: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
Sounds like your video card. Check to make sure it's connected properly. If so, check to make sure it's properly seated to *********** board. The possible issue could be the card is connected enough to display the picture, but not enough to communicate with the monitor to stay on because it has an active feed. Best of luck fixing it
franh, Typical of a lcd/fpd monitor! There is nothing you or hundreds of others can do to repair it all by yourself. I have repaired 3 monitors and helped tutor 2 others on fixya with their monitors. All had same exact symptom as your monitor. I need you to do a simple test for me. With failed Acer monitor near to your Fully Booted PC with a known good desktop being displayed on back-up monitor, quickly swap out the monitor cables from the back of the PC. Keep touching the CTRL key on you keyboarb every 30-50 seconds to keep the PC from sending out sleep mode command to monitor while doing the reconnect of acer to your PC monitor output port. Make sure the Acer also is connected to a live wall outlet/power strip. Turn on the Acer and note what happens. If screen shows a sharp clear image for a second, then goes black, do the following. Get a bright flashlight and shine it on the screen from a distance of 1 or 2 inches and tell me if you can see the desktop display. get back to me with your observations. I'm louie12fix on fixya or lmistyrel@ aol.com.
Have you used the Fn button on your laptop and changed the video display Icon on the Blue Function keys. You need to change the display wait a few seconds for it to take affect. There are several modes try them all so you know how to use them.
Hi...there,
It's turns blue to power safe mode (yellow) it's prevent futher damaged to your monitor. It's seems you got a busted backlight inverter. Need to replaced a new one...Since you only got it for a few months, send it back to Acer for a replacement of a new backlight inverter... Have a nice day!
You probably have a few dodgy caps on the power board inside. It's an easy fix if you are confident around electronics.
If not, pop it off to your local TV repair shop and have it taken care of now before it gets expensive with a complete failure.
hi ,first unplug the monitor both from mains and the comp, keep it that way for some time and then check, and secondly the clicking sound might be of the relays used in the power curcit, check the relays, let me know
