F-21 error, washer not draining

My Whirlpool Duet Sport washer wll not drain. It gives an F-21 message. I checked the back drainage hose and it seems clear. I believe I hear something rattling within machine - perhaps kids hair pins somehow got stuck. Checked the filter and it was clear as well, is there anywhere else something could have gotten stuck?

I have had this code three separate times. The first time service man came and cleaned out the filter. This is behind the lower front panel and can be removed by hand. The cartridge style filter is located at the pump in the lower right of the unit. Have something available to catch the draining water as you loosen the filter. The second time I received this code I found a blockage in the drain hose at its bend. The third time no hose blockage, no filter clogging, but the pump impeller was jammed by an elastic strap that had made it through the filter. I removed it through the supply side of the pump seen after filter is removed.

F- 21 is an error code for a communications error between the touchpad and the ccu (main computer) check that all leds light up when selected . if so disconnect power from machine for 30 secs. try again. still a problem? check wiring for loose connections. have also seen this once with drain pump not plugger in. basically you have to find out what unit is not talking to the ccu. as for the noise when you remove "filter" the hole to the right is the impellar see if something in there. it is safe to seperate the two halves of the pump and reassemble.

SOURCE: Whirlpool Duet Sport Washer will not drain - F-21 error

Just had the exact same problem. Front panel screws hard to get at, (unit stacked) but used univeral on ratchet. Wow, how easy compared to our old stacking GE unit. Word of advice, unscrew the drain plug slowly. We had a LOT of water, and used a heavy duty garbage bag held around the drain to "catch" the water. Worked great-no wet towel mess. Thanks

Check electrical connections to pump and make sure pump runs, check drain pump filter for strings, sand etc., plug in washer. If you have and none of these are blocked then you have a faulty drain pump which will need replacing

My whirlpool washer duet sport is not draining water out and displays error code f-21

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. Error F21 indicates long drain, this error occurs when the drain time exceeds 8 minutes. To resolve this check the drain hose and make sure it is not kinked with any foreign particles; also clean the drain pump filter for any clogs. Also check if the pump is running fine. If still the issue is not resolved after all this then you might have to replace the pump. Please do rate the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.

Thanks

My whirlpool duet sport washer flashes f-21 what does this mean

"F21" is a Long Drain error code. This indicates that you have an obstruction in the drainage system. More than likely you probably have a clog in the drain pump. The following link explains:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r1484065-f21_error_code_whirlpool_duet_kenmore

Included is a follow-on link that explains how to check the drain pump to clean. You may also have to remove the inlet hose that runs from the bottom of the wash tub to the inlet side of the drain pump. Debris can commonly clog in this area as well causing the drain cycle to fail.

If you have any questions about this repair, or need additional assistance, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

NOTE: If these preliminary measures do not correct your problem, you may have to replace the drain pump. It does not take much to damage the pump impeller or motor. Since the error code is generated if the drain cycle exceeds 8 minutes, if the pump is damaged and can't pump at the required volume, the error code will continue to appear until the pump is replaced.

Whirlpool Duet Sport Front loading washer and dryer with error code

An easy Fix. Take off the kick panel, 3 screws 1/4 inch. Make sure you have a shop vac ready or a lot of towels as there will be some water. Always disconnect power to washer and dryer, and turn off water to washer. Your filter most likely is clogged with change, screws, lint, and other household stuff that we leave in our pockets! Unscrew the cap on the filter, easy to find, since you have the kick panel off! Take everything out of the filter. Take your shop vac and **** out remaining stuff in hose. Also, **** up any water that has leaked in and around the washer. Screw the cap back on hand tight, put the kick panel back on, turn your water back on, plug it in and there you go! Maybe takes an hour and saves you a repair bill. If you are not comfortable with this procedure then call a maintenance person that is qualified. 775f844.jpg
