Boots up windows runs for about 5 mins then system shuts off

Sounds like the laptop is overheating and shutting itself down to protect the internal components. Could you put your hand on it after it turns on to feel how hot it is? If its very hot, it might need special cleaning of the dust in it (or in the fans).

You may have a cooling problem (with older computers), if you hear your fan running excessively and then it shuts down on you. Otherwise it is more likely a hard drive issue.

Hi, I have a laptop Compaq A945 US with Windows 7 installed in it. I am facing a serious problem these days as my laptop shut down automatically while doing my work. It happens after 10-15 min on first...

dear..
i think you should re-install your laptop, maybe the system has an error because some files are missing, it can be happens because of viruses, to re- format your os you can click one time restore..just turn on or reboot your laptop and quickly press f11 button on your keyboard, but no data will save when you do this, so you need to back up your data first, so you don't lose your work..
if one click restore couldn't be done, you need to prepare a bootable windows cd. to install windows from cd you need to change your boot set up, press f1 when you turn on your laptop, go to boot menu change your first boot to cd room and the second boot to hard drive, enter the windows cd, press save and exit, when appear a message "boot from cd or dvd" quickly press any key, then you can follow the instruction that appears on your screen..

My Sony Vaio VGN-NS110D Laptop computer won’t boot up, it cycles through to a black screen with the mouse pointer there which I can move. Apparently this is called the ‘black screen of death’! I can’t do...

Try these 1) Shut down the system 2) Remove the battery 3) Hold down the power button for say 2 minutes 4)Put the battery back 5) Boot the system
If you still hit the black screen with a cursor: 1) Wait for 2 mins at the black screen 2) Just type in your windows password (if you don't have one hit enter) and press enter 3) Wait for another 2-3 mins 4) Hit Alt Ctrl Delete and go to task manager (this time it should take you to the task manager) - fingers crossed LOL 5) Now do new task - explorer.exe
Hopefully you should be back in action.
Note, this is a work around and for a permanent fix either try and clean your system (check for viruses) or reinstall the system. Hope this helps.

PC does not boots / does not start

Since your system reboots even if you stay in the Bios setup the problem with your system might be because of heating up of the proceesor, which might be caused if the fan CPU fan is rotating slowly or is not rotating at all. If the fan is rotating slowly change the cpu fan and try to reinstall XP

CHKDSK

you must have had a system crash, windows automatically checks for bad sectors and corrupted files the next time you boot up.

Allow it to run because it will repair any bad sectors, after that it will not run again on start up.

Slow booting & shut down

the only thing I can sugust is remove norton 360 if you have this onboard and get other firewall and spyware and antivirus software.

and disable the sidebar with the widgets, and change desktop view from aero to clasic this will boost up loading and shutting down of laptop.

you can purschase vista, then download all drivers for laptop from manufactures and re-install from scratch.

good luck with problem

Flashing Green Light next to voltage switch

For problem #1 there is a MBR (Master Boot Record) problem, meaning that Windows is unable to find Windows. This can either be a software problem or a hard disk failure. If you have your Windows XP disc boot up with it in your cd drive and when it starts press 'R' for repair as this wil repair system files and you will not lose any settings or doc's. When you are running go to your hard disk drive manufacturer and run a diagnosis and repair if neccassary. Problem #2 should sort itself out if left unplugged from the mains supply and the power supply unit for 15 mins or so. If not there is a power supply that needs replacing.
