What you can try is getting a cleaning kit it has a dvd in it that has cleaning counter measures built in this cleans the lens on the unit. Now if a cleaning kit fails you might need to replace the laser inside.

SOURCE: When a disc is loaded, it reads "no disc".

Okay, so I had this problem a few days ago and started watching movies on my X-box 360. Then my X-Box came up with the same error as my DVD player. After reading countless reviews and e-mailing Samsung, I read somewhere that someone had pummeled their X-Box until it adjusted the laser back.

So, I pummeled my DVD and X-Box into oblivion and oddly enough both of them are working. Don't go crazy smacking it but give it some sturdy hits right above the CD tray as you are putting CD's in and opening the tray. Worked for me and hope it helps...

The drive plays DVDs and can read doc files, but

This problem is normal and exists with many CD/DVD drives.
On some of the drives, if you put in blank discs and try to open the disc in My Computer or Windows Explorer, Windows displays no contents or a blank disc. Whereas on other drives, you get the error message that you mentioned about incorrect function.

What software are you using to burn CDs or DVDs? Are you able to burn CDs but not DVDs or you can't burn both the discs? Did you try a CDs with a different make/manufacturer? Some drives refuse on some disc makes. Try another disc and another writing speed, or try the lowest writing speed available with your software.

Hope that helps,
Regards,
Raspal

Cds fine; dvds won't load

Most likely the DVD laser lens is dirty. Unplug the CH-DVD 300 from the wall outlet, wait 5 minutes, then remove the top cover. Next, remove the rectangular metal plate which covers the area where the CD or DVD disc would be when in the player's tray. Underneath the rectangular plate you should see two small lenses. Gently clean these lenses using ear swabs moistened with isopropyl alcohol. Reassemble the CH-DVD 300 in the reverse order that you disassembled it, plug it back into power, and now it should read your DVD discs just fine.

Playstation 2 won't play DVDs

if it's a fat PS2 and
model SCPH 30001, SCPH 35001
(not including the models with an 'R' after the model #.

these models need the following to play DVDs:
- PS2 DVD remote with IR unit
- PS2 DVD disc player (sold with DVD remote w/ IR unit)
- PS2 memory card

you copied the DVD disc to the memory card. you used the memory card to play DVDs.

later models didn't need the memory card to play DVDs.

hope this helps :D

No longer loading dvds

You may have a bad laser. First, make sure the laser assy. travels back and forth easily, then make sure the table the disc sits on spins freely. If it still isn't reading, load a disc and immediatly flip it over to it's top and see if it works. Working or not, still a bad laser.

No disc

The optical lens is out of alignment. This is why it will read CDs which have much larger data pits that DVDs.

The unit should be able to read and playback CDs (both production and burned) and DVDs (both production and burned). If the optics are out of alignment and exceed their tolerances, the player will not read discs.

This is caused fromt he player being dropped or jarred.

This is not an easy fix for the home user. This is something that a qualified professional needs to correct.
