The pilot valve or control valve when it unloads sends a air signal to close the motor throttle down to idle and depending on what form of control it uses for the compressor it will either use head unloaders to hold open the inlet valves or a unloader that dumps the compressor output to atmosphere, this one uses a silencer mounted near the pilot valve. if it uses this type remove the silencer and retest the operation. either you have a motor that is out of adjustment or the compressor is not unloading!

Air compressor starts and builds air then idles and when it goes to rebuild air it dies

if your saying it wont recover from idle down mode back to full speed , this might be the IR fuel pump/regulator problem (a pressure gauge will need to be added to verify this ) , if so save your money go with an aftermarket pump it'll last longer

I have an Ingersoll Rand T30 10 HP compressor that runs OK and will bulid up 150 psi without any problems. But when the pressure drops enough to kick the pressure switch, the motor won't start. just tries...

When the compressor comes up to pressure and kicks off, you should normally hear a gasp of air escaping. That gasp is the release of pressure from the compressor itself - not the tank, and it is supposed to get released so that the compressor can restart without being preloaded with compressed air. My guess is that the gasp is not happening. It is probably some debris or a gummy mechanism. The mechanism is supposed to be triggered by the same mechanism that shuts off the motor.

Leaking air

When the Pressure switch shuts off, the little air valve in the pressure switch vents the copper line from the compressor, to blead the pressure from the compressor so it's easier to start the next time. If it continues to leak, the check valve between compressor and tank must not be holding.

I have an IR Air Compressor #SS3 E. It want stop running/building up pressure. I am sure its the pressure relief valve, but there are 2. One at the presure regulator and the other at the pump and motor.How...

if it is lifting both valves I would say that the pressure switch (regulator as you call it) is defective, if you try to shut it off using the manual switch and it keeps running, I would say that the switch is welded shut. if it does not shut off by 125 psi then it is faulty. The pressure switch is what controls the motor in response to pressure in the tank.

I HAVE A TECUMSEH 10 HP ON AN AIR COMPRESSOR IT STARTS, BUILDS AIR PRESSURE THEN IT SHUTS OFF INSTEAD OF GOING TO LOW IDLE

try to decrease regulator, maybe you ask to much power and it shuts of. specially with cold motor its important to ask less pressure.

I have a Ingersoll Rand P185 WJD air compressor and I need to know the type and quantity of oil to use.

Do not use 30 wt oil. It will wreak the oil/air seperator filter. Use Ingersoll Rand Pro-Tec fluid. It will hold approx 3 gallons.
