I have a windows 7 operating system & i am trying to move video from my Sony Handycam DCR hc36 Are there simple instructions to download/transfer the video, save it, burn it to a DVD & then...

Get a dvd-r disc. Insert it into the computer. Open My Computer and go into the disc. Format the disc if necessary. Select the format type you prefer (I use Live File). Keep that window open and plug your camera in by USB. Once connected, go into My Computer again, double-click your camera's icon, go into a folder (that should be called) DCIM which is the folder your camera stores pictures and video in. Find your video(s) and drag them into the dvd disc's window. Those files should appear transparent which means they are ready to be written. Look at the toolbar and find Burn to Disc. Disc tray will open once burning is complete.

Is there a way to hook up a usb cable to a Sony Handycam DVD205?

unfortunately,no. the dvd camcorder was designed for easy dvd disc recording w/o usb or computer connectivity (it doesn't have usb port for connection). comparable models that has the usb jack are dcrdvd305 aqnd dcrdvd755 (which cost more). but don't loose hope.other options to transfer videos from cam to pc is by using the dvd disc (make sure you finalize it) and your computer's dvd drive (make sure it has supports 8cm disc and the disc tray in the right orientation to take the disc so it won't fall out). once inside the drive.open or explore the disc and copy and paste video files saved on the usual video_ts folder or the .vob files. if you need to playback the copied files you can simply change the file name to .mpg or use a file conversion software (which you can easily download for free online, use free file conversion as your search phrase) to convert files to a file format you need for editing purposes. another way to go is to use the supplied a/v cable. this type of connection would need a supporting software and hardware installed in your computer. an a/v capture card should be installed and a compatible video capturing application would be needed. hope this helps.thanks:)

Can not import film to PC.

I have a partial solution for those whose files come up as audio. connect your camera via USB. Windows Movie Player should recognize the camera when you select capture device. When you have your camera selected hit next. Put the file in My Video and title it. When you are ready too capture video Hit play on you camera while in the review screen. The Movie Maker will then capture your video as it plays in the camera.
