Your pressure switch stops the
water and allows it to start the next cycle. It's a switch either in the
control panel or at the top of the tub with a small tube connected to it which
goes down between the inner and outer tub. As the water level increases the air
in the tube is compressed until there is enough pressure to make the switch
stopping the water from filling and allowing the wash cycle to start. . This tube can get clogged and the switch won't
work. Remove the tube and clean it out. Blowing on the tube when it's still
connected to the switch will make the switch if it's working and clear.
If the water doesn't drain does that mean your washer doesn't spin after washing. Could be a loose or broken belt.
The lid switch which is closed when you shut the lid will prevent the washer from starting on some models and just keeps it from spinning on others. Most will agitate with the lid open but not spin. You can bypass the switch to test it by unplugging the two wires going to it and connect them together. You may have to slightly raise the top to access it. Or use a tool to depress it in case the lid is not pushing it far enough.

What about the switch on top of washer? Could it be that if the switch is broken (where door closes properly) the cycle won't run or is this completely false????
