My computer won't recognise my Zen Vision:M at all. I have tried all 3 USB ports and it turns the player on, but does nothing else. When I tried downloading the recovery tool from the Creative website it says plug your player in - which I have done, but it is just not recognised. Please help me to fix this problem.

my creative zen isn't recognized by my media player. I tried all the ports and i even tried downloading the solution through creative but it says to connect my player. When i plug it in it turns on and says docked but when i look at my media player it says nothing's there. HELP ME!!!!

At the moment, neither my zen vision M or zen v will sync with my computer. They charge fine but neither one will switch to the sync mode when I turn on my computer. Wondering if it's a question of resources, but when i plug in the usb cable, instead of the normal happy dingdong sound XP makes when it recognizes a device, i get an unhappy dadadum sound which seems to mean that it knows something is there but it can't recognize it. Wondering if there is a limit to the number of devices that XP can recognize or if its a limitation with my computer which is a powerful Vaio, albeit several years old. Thing is, I got my zen vision replaced via warranty because of this problem and it worked perfectly for a while afterwards but now, a few months later, it won't sync again, and neither will my zen v plus. WTF! This is so annoying. I have all this music and can't get it onto my player. I prefer machines that have sync buttons instead of this auto sync crap because it seems with the numerous devices some of us have computers have a tough time figuring out wtf is connected to them at any given time. I have flash cards, cameras, media players, hard drives, etc. and I think we are kidding ourselves thinking this stuff is all going to connect seamlessly. That said, I will try unpluggin things and seeing where it takes me. Thanks for listening to my rant.

  • Anonymous Feb 28, 2008

I get the stupid dadadum noise as well when connecting my Zen vision M. It worked fine up until i reformatted my hard drive and im going to attempt that again to see if i can fix the issue. Its a real pain in the ass though that i should have to waste another day reformatting my computer just because my damn mp3 player wont work so if anyone knows a solution to this problem please let me know before i reformat

  • sagyG Mar 30, 2008

My Creative Zen vision M isn't recognized by my computer. I installed the installation CD and also installed windows media player 11. It stilld didnt work. Is there a simpler solution?

  • Anonymous Apr 02, 2008

My Zen works fine on my own PC but it should be automatically recognised as a hard drive by other PCs and it isnt, it wont even charge. This is a design flaw that is extremely annoying and a gross oversight by creative who otherwise make excellent MP3 players

  • RyanGarnett Apr 03, 2008

I have a similar but different problem. My computer will not recognize my Zen at all, no recharge, nothing. I have tried all the recommending solutions, but nata. I would love to update my firmware, but considering it isn't recognized by my computer, well that won't work.

    Any thoughts?

  • Anonymous Apr 16, 2008

I haven't played my ZEN Vision:M for a about 6 months .... and when I tried to connect to the PC to re-charge the battery ...... it won't even come on. I can use the AC power cord and it comes on and works fine, but the only way to re-charge the battery and download music from my PC is to have the ZEN connected.

The software on my machine appears to be fine .... and when I plug in the ZEN (not only does the ZEN not come on) it doesn't show as connected on the software.

Why won't the ZEN player come on to charge the battery ???

  • cfm89169 May 20, 2008

My computer does not detect my creative zen, I tried reinstalling the program from the disk and it won't even recognize it on the installation. I think I may have a software problem, but I don't know what software to add in order to fix this. The thing is, the whole thing was fine up until I had netFramework 1.1 installed on my pc for my TI 89. Could this have caused the problem? Let me know.

  • Anonymous Jun 03, 2008

    Same problem as described

  • visionmprob Jun 09, 2008

Ok. I've been having the same problems as many in this string. I have a Vision M. I've noticed some change in connectivity. It started with not being recognized by my laptop but I could still connect to my desktop, although it was recognized thru My Computer as a peripheral. Since I was able to connect to desktop, I just used it to transfer songs and movies to Zen. And since there had been no real fix for my laptop problem as far as I have found on the net, I was ok with transfering stuff via my desktop. This worked for about 6 months.... Today, I got some movies from a friend and was planning on transfering them to my Zen. Now my desktop wont recognize the Zen.??? It will turn Zen on and charge but wont dock. After spending some time on the net again, I tried something. Deleting file \windows\inf\infcache.1 on my laptop. I didnt have this file on my desktop, so no luck deleting it. With my laptop, Zen will turn on and charge but still will not be recognized. This is my latest experience with my zen. Anybody got any ideas on what is going on with this thing?

    Thanks.

  • Massieko Nov 20, 2008

Hey, my brother gave me his Zen awhile back and I can't get it to connect to my computer.

At first it was freezing on me often and I found out all I had to do
was reset it. Problem solved. Now I try connecting it to the computer
and windows just says the device is unknown and has malfunctioned and
it ends there. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling but no go. I've
got the software loaded on my computer but it just says it's not
    connected when it is.

The cable charges the Zen fine, it plays music, video and pictures no problem, it's just it won't connect.

I've gone into the recovery mode and used the clean up utility but that
had no effect, other than it seems to run a little quicker.

I imagine the firmware is old "V1.20.02_0.0.25" and would like to update but how can I when it won't connect?

I imagine if I went to update firmware, it would delete the current firmware and then I couldn't update, leaving me screwed.

Now big question is, what does rebooting it do exactly?

See I would try that or formatting the drive but My brother gave it to
me with TONS of music and treasured family pictures of us traveling
around the world. They're the only copies because the hard drive they
    were on crashed.

Will rebooting it wide the data too?

    Can anyone PLEASE help me?!

  • Anonymous Nov 26, 2008

    it sucks.
i have no idea what reboot means.
i dont know what that chick up there means by hold in the power button
    or press rest twice.
this stuff isn't even funny man!
all i wanna do is transfer music

  • butlercn Dec 02, 2008

My LAPTOP will not recognize my Zen Vision:M when I plug it into the USB port, although it will charge the battery. When I plug the unit into my DESKTOP computer, it is recognized just fine. Therefore, I don't believe the problem is with the Zen, but with USB drivers, and software on the XP (SP3) laptop. I know the hardware is working, since my thumb drives work just fine.

well i have the same problem i entered the disc and installed it and everything but my computer doesn't know my zen is there

  • Anonymous Jan 01, 2009

I tried following the advice of 'rebooting', though no such luck. None of the files on my device were deleted, however the computer still will not recognise it.

I will say that when I have come to restart my Zen more recently, it no longer does the 'rebuilding' routine at all, just loads up fine, whether that is of relevance I do not know, should I expect something of the same nature when I 'reboot'?

Also, I get the litte transfering arrow sign on the screen now and again and the device is occasionally charged too by the computer, though when I come to transfer data either the software freezes (if it is able to identify the device for a few moments), or simply doesn't recognise it at all.

Mine did this too, and I have the exact reason why.
If the first solution didn't work for you (as it didn't with me), follow these instructions

Connect your Zen to the computer
-On your computer, click start, then control panel
-Click on Add Hardware
-Go through this until it shows you a list of things recently added, Creative Zen should be up top somewhere (mine was) with a yellow question mark as the icon
-Click it and have it install it
-When a list pops up asking you if you want to have it do it just this once, or everytime without asking CLICK ON EVERYTIME. Tis is what stopped it from connecting to your computer.
The drivers were not installed.

My Creative Zen would not connect. All I did was click Start, right click on My Computer, click Manage, click on Device Manager, and right click on Creative Zen. Click on update drivers and it will download from the internet.

I tried this, but it didn't work. A similar strategy did work though:

go to My Computer, click Manage, click on Device Manager. My Zen was there with a yellow triangle. I uninstalled the Zen from the computer. Then I connected my Zen to the computer with the USB cable. The computer detected the Zen and re-installed it on the computer. Finally I can dock my Zen to my computer again :)

  • rugbyguy02 Sep 08, 2010

anti_apples idea worked perfectly. Took 3 seconds. Only thing I had to do was reset the device to get it to turn on before pluggin it back into my PC.

  • paulp331 Dec 15, 2010

I had a similar problem reconnecting my zen to a new computer. Your advice worked perfectly.

If you have any occurances of a libusb-win32 exe process running, it will block you're Vision:M from being recognized by the computer. You can do a couple of things to solve the problem. Either go into task manager and stop the process, or go into control pannel (classic view)> administrative tools> services and stop the process from there. In some cases (like mine) you may have installed the exe as a program (for example if you downloaded the driver to use a PS3 controller with you're pc) for these cases, they either come with an uninstaller that is accessible in the Program files folder, or you can simply delete the entire folder that the exe is in. That last one did it for me...hope it helps all of you.

Hi,
I had a problem similar to this, and fixed it by doing the following:
1. Plug the Zen in to the PC
2. Hold the power button 'on'
3. Press Reset twice
4. (This takes some time to load, about 30-45 minutes) But when it does you should get a list of options, select Reboot.
5. Hey presto, computer recognises Zen.
6. I suggest moving your music over immediately to your desktop as reboot may wipe the whole thing.

Good luck with it everyone...

If you have windows set to do automatic updates, you most likely had a windows update installed that caused this conflict with Win Media Player 11. No fix has been posted by Microsoft yet, so the only workaround is to Uninstall/Rollback Windows Media Player 11. Goto <Control Panel<Add/Remove Programs and remove Windows Media Player 11. Follow prompts, restart computer when prompted to. Also uninstall Windows Media Player 11 Runtime application following same procedure above.
This will roll your Windows Media Player back to version 10 or 9, whichever you had installed prior to version 11. You will need to re-configure Windows Media Player again.

Your Zen should now be recognized by WMP and Creative software. You probably need to upgrade your firmware at this point, follow the instructions on upgrading your firmware, and you should be good to go.

This is a windows problem, not a creative problem. Dont blame Creative for the screwed up hotfixes that Microsoft puts out on a regular basis.

Hello, I have a ZEN 4GB and had the same problem, before you do anything drastic like resetting or formatting, make sure you are using the original USB cable that came with the player, i.e. one with the small filter on the end, Good luck. jonihill.

I have the Zen Mozaic, and my computer didnt recgonize it.

Here's what I did.

I made sure my mp3 player WAS NOT connected to the computer, and re installed Creative Centrale.

AFTER it was completely finished, I plugged in my Zen.

I pushed and held he reset button for 5 seconds.

I went to the start menu, right clicked my computer and chose properties.

In the Hardware tab, I clicked on device manager. My zen was listed under the other devices with a yellow ? beside it, finally I clicked update driver, and it worked!!

Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)
Click 'Check for solutions' to send data about this device to Microsoft and to see if there is a solution available.

the above is what I find in Device Manager. no solutions under 'Check for solutions' what can I do??

I had the same message. I fixed it by uninstalling the zen from the computer, then reinstalling it.

If none of these solutions worked for you, you have either a hard drive failure or a motherboard failure. Go here: http://www.thegadgetdr.com/Articles.asp?ID=134 to see which one it is.

The only way to solve this problem is to take the hard drive out and rewrite the fimware directly to the the HDD. The problem is the creative restore utility that sometimes simply doesn't recognize connected devices. There is an ipod repair and creative zen repair service that can do it for you.

See if the Operating System on the computer matches

Get down on the support page and make a Manual Selection in the

The available downloads will change now. Next get the matching software for your PC.

It won't transfer my zen vision M songs from my computer

I've been able to solve the problem I had with transferring files to my Zen Vision M.

I uninstalled all components of Media Source 5 and Zen Vision M Series Explorer on my PC. I then reinstalled them again. I also rolled back to Windows Media 10 (as I recently upgraded to v 11) and unchecked Sync with Zen Vision M in tools/options/devices on WM player. I then run the Clean up in recovery mode on the Zen. When the PC restarts after the installation of the software it will ask for you to connect the player. The PC should now successfully transfer files to the player.

Hope it works for you too.

Vision M not recognized

I'm having the exact same problem. My zen is 'charging' but isn't detected anywhere on my pc and I'd leave it charging for days but nothing happens. I've tried different usb ports, reinstalling the software several times but nothing. I recently reinstalled Windows and with my new pc my Zen cannot work on it for some reason?! I put previous files from my old pc onto my Zen hoping that I could transfer them onto my new Windows pc but I fear I've lost the data on my Zen completely. Arggh, any suggestions guys? Please..x

Zen Vision:M Not Responding SOLUTION! to No Charge, Device Not Connected or Recognize

If that doesn't fix it try the USB cable

Screen Doesn’t come on anymore

If your Zen V is dead, wont respond to anything, try this, plug it in to the computer, hold the power switch in the on position, THEN trigger the reset button, worked like a charm for mine, I had thought it a lost cause."

Charging and transfer issues on my zen m

Make sure you have media player 11
If you can, the best test is to try your player with another PC, to see if you still have the problem. This localises whether the problem is with the PC (most likely the USB) or the player. See the link below (search on "connection problems") for a lot more troubleshooting on this.
Download recovery tool off creative's website.
go to my computer > click on hardware tab >
click on device manager button > in the is next screen on the bottom should have>>universal serial bus controllers
(write these down just in case it cant find them)
right click on them and uninstall
reboot let windows reinstall them

Also told Microsoft hotfix causes this problem try uninstalling the last hotfix
If that doesn't fix it try the USB cable
