Sanning problems for multi function printer PIXMA MP 160

I can print off things from the printer but cannot scan from it – will not work. It has not worked since the printer inks ran out. Can you normally operate the scanner even though the inks run out? Since then I have had the ink cartridges refilled instead of replacing with new ones, and the scanner still doesn’t work.

Once I turn on the printer, the LED flashes along with the black and colour ink lamps and the alarm lamp remains still – even though I have replaced the ink.
I then tried clicking on the MP Navigator icon and when I press preview or scan, the scan gear box comes up with the message “printer maintenance in progress, scan after it is complete – code 2,114,0”. Once hitting the ok button, nothing happens. I tried the same progress the other day and then the message displayed “scanning failed”.
Are these problems happening because the printer has not got new cannon ink cartridges?

BTW can you please give me the phone number for the NZ Cannon technical support line?
Thank you,

Maria

Just hold the stop and reset button until the warning goes away. Works like a charm

Okay all, I have an MP210 and I had the same problem using it on a Mac. My color ink was running low, and after a final printout it informed me that I was out of ink altogether. Now, the next day I want to scan something, so I bring on MP Nav EX, but it gives me the "maintenance in progress" error. I contacted Canon support and this is what they had to say:

"Unfortunately, the PIXMA MP210 must have all of the inks installed and contain ink for the unit will be able to print. If you are experiencing a "Low Ink" warning, you will still be able to
scan, but not print. If you are getting a "Ink Out" error, you will NOT BE ABLE TO USE the unit for copying, scanning, or printing until the ink is replaced. These precautions are in place to prevent damage to the printer from occurring if printing with no ink is attempted. As the process of scanning is the same as copying for the MP210's hardware, this is a part of the design for this model."

So while this model may seem stupid and inefficient, it is there for a reason. And now you know! :)

  • bobalvarado Nov 06, 2010

The purpose of this design is probably more to insure the sale of ink cartridges. Their business model is to sell the units at lower costs and make up "lost" revenue through recurring sale of ink. Is not "stupid", but clever and effective - though underhanded and counter to the consumer's interest.

First, download the software at http://www.box.net/shared/4yblbn34kg

Secondly, to run the software your printer has to be in service mode. Do that by
- unplug cable
- press and hold "power" button
- plug cable
- press "resume" and release
- release the "power" button
At this stage, your computer will detect a new hardware

Run the software.

oke

THIS SOLUTION FOR PEOPLE WHO CANNOT RESET THEIR OWN PRINTER LIKE ME

hi, now i got a solution how to SCAN if your printer have E-5 error or something. First u must remove the both cartridge from your printer and make sure u connect your printer to your computer, after that, do this

With the printer powered off but connected to a power source, press the Power button while pressing and holding the Stop/ Reset button.

When the Power is lit, press the Stop/Reset button two times while pressing and holding the Power button.

And then you will see no error in your printer (the LED shows number 1,and the alarm is in green)

NOW U CAN SCAN USING MP NAVIGATOR!

can you be more specific ... whether we have release power as well as stop/reset button after it got switched on??and if again pressed power button with stop.reset button my printer is simply switched off....

    Thanks in advance

Uninstall all your drivers (and delete the preferences) and download the Mac drivers from this link. The drivers that came with your printer were developed before Snow Leopard came out.

Sanning problems for printer PIXMA MP 160

some printers can detect that the cartridges are refilled based ona barcode or scanning of the cartridges. Does this Cannon have ink tanks or ink cartridges. If it has intakes then the print head needs to be cleaned wth rubbing alcohol and a q-tip. If they are cartridges then it would be good just to buy the original cartidges. As far as the scanning goes this can be a direct connection to the printer going through maintenance. If it continues to not scan then you may need to uninstall the scanner. see if the scanner shows up in your scanners area. if not then it will need to be re-installed.
