My hotpoint ultima FDW85 - is displaying the code AL10 what does this mean (bought second hand with no manual

I believe that this means "Heater element open circuit" Symptoms are thayt the machine will fill with water but then will not wash because it's waiting for the element to start heating the water and it can't.

Our hotpoint fdw60 won't wash properly if at all water goes in but it does not seem to wash and we get a code of AL10 too

AL10 means open circuit in heating circuit. ie not heating which will also explain poor wash results.

can be a fairly involved job and should be left to someone who knows what they are doing.

on other hand could be as simple as a broken wire inside the door skin, just remove and give all the wires a good tug.

Hi I have a Hotpoint fdw80 witch is displaying an error code AL10. Please can you tell me what this means so I can decide a course of action. Many Thank's Amanda

I found these error codes for the hotpoint fdw80

AL01 - Anti flood switch operated
AL02 - Valve or connections
AL03 - Time out - drain
AL04 - Thermistor (module)
AL05 - Circulation pump
AL06 - Time out - fill
AL07 - Not used
AL08 - Time out - heat
AL09 - Software recogntion error
AL10 - Heating circuit
AL99 - Communications error - connectors, cables etc.
H20 - Time out - fill (taps)

Now looking at AL10 error. Most often it is the heater element which is not effective due to scale formation. Make a solution of white vinegar and water (50:50) pour it onto the base of the dishwasher. Leave overnight and run dishwasher as normal. Somehow the vineger has to reach the heating element which is an inline heater. I am assuming normally you would use the hotwater connection from the kitchen tap.

If this does not help - depends how soon into the cycle you get the error you will have to replace the heater. I think it would look like this.

Fault code AL10

I called an engineer after checking with hotpoint what the fault code was. Hotpoint advised that it was either a faulty heating circuit and I had to check the heating connections and timer (impossible unless you call an engineer).
Anyway, the fault turned out to be something to do with a water feed (I can't remember the technical name). There wasn't enough pressure coming through a particular valve as it was stuck in a semi-closed version, consequently the heating element wasn't switching on as it wasn't 'sensing' enough water pressure.

Valve has been fixed, and the dishwasher is now doing OK! For the time beginning at least.......

Hotpoint FDW80 dishwasher showinmg an AL10 fault.

Thank you for your quick reply.
Our solution - Added salt and rinse agent (I think it was probably the salt). All seems OK. No fault warnings showing.
