My Dell Inspiron 2650 laptop, which is extremely slow, has a ''standard'' (inaccessible) 126mb memory bank and a 256mb accessible bank. The service manual says ''maximum memory 512mb''. It's easy to replace the accessible card with a 512mb card, but will this do any good? (I don't know if there is a 256mb limit on the accessible bank.) Will I get an additional 128mb of memory, or what?
This article on upgrading memory on a Dell Inspiron 2600 Laptop may help. http://life-of-brian.com/2009/12/installing-extra-ram-in-a-dell-inspiron-2600/
The only thing you could do is put in a 256MB module in the slot that you have access to. Only one socket is user upgradable. The second socket is only upgradable by a Dell service center. They would have to install a second 256 module to get you to the 512MB max.
