The drawer will not go in if the empty grounds container is in it. This has happened before and we just took out the container and turned the machine on and off and then it worked. There is something in the back that is blocking it and I cannot get it to reset.
This just happened, I found that if you (1) remove the drawer, (2) turn off machine and wait a bit, say a minute or so (3) turn it back on and finally replace the drawer WITHOUT the grounds bucket it will (may?) reset itself. Don't forget to replace the grounds bucket afterwards.
As mentioned this is because the flap gets out of sync, I believe I caused this by having too much powder in the powder container.
I too have had this problem (usually after a cleaning cycle that gets out of sync). My solution is two-fold. One put the drawer back without the bucket and it sometimes will fix itself. If not, carefully (when the machine is not hot) pull the level back gently. With a towel (or paper towel) rub the grounds off the flat surface just above this plastic lever. You won't be able to see, but sometimes the ground build up and block. In fact, I now make it a part of the cleaning cycle reminder to also clean this inside part of the machine. The drawer area gets a lot of residue from ground coffee. I have found that keeping this area cleaner than it will on its own can often times reset and even prevent this lever from falling out of sync.
It's strange that this is so simple, yet every time it happens to me, i still forget. here is what you do. you can turn the machine off and unplug it for a minute, but, you dont even need to do that i dont think.
1st open the tap. next insert the tray only (without the drawer) into the machine. The machine will say shut tap and then will begin heating or resetting. Then it will say "missing drawer". you can then remove the tray and insert the drawer. Hope it works!
This happened to me. I found some type of plastic latch hanging down in the back by feel. Wiggled it gently into place and then put the drawer in. Wish I could give more detail but I did it all by feel and it took only a few seconds once I started. I got the sense that there is a feature that when working correctly presses against the back of the grounds bin. It raises and lowers appropriately but when it gets out of sync it is in the down position while the drawer is out. Pressing harder is an expensive and unproductive option.
IT WORKD! I've gone from tears of anguish to tears of JOY after finding this solution! Woohoo!!!! Thank you!
Hey it worked by putting in drawer without the bucket!!! Thanks! I always do something to the machine while hubby is away:)

does anybody know how to deal with this problem if your feeling somehow miraculously has let you down?

The machine keeps turning off and we hear a loud click. We tried to take the drawer out and the grounds box wouldn't come out, it was stuck on something. After fiddling with it, we got it out and saw a "flap" hanging down. The flap goes up, but won't stay up. We can't get the drawer back in unless we mess with flap. Once we finally do get the drawer back in, the machine still won't stay on or work. As soon as we turn the machine on it turns off right away and we hear that loud click again. Any advice?? I'm frustrated!!!
After I descaled and cleaned the machine, the drawer would not go in and I get an E8 message. I have turned off the machine, tried to move the internal parts with my hand, and retry. At one point I got the drawer in but then started the machine, it made terrible noises and then popped the drawer out again.
Problems started after latest "clean machine" cycle ended. It did not go to
"Ready" mode as usual. I could not get it to respond to any other command. "drawer missing" sign came on . I turned on and off 2-3 times
with no results. I removed drawer for the 20+ seconds suggested and when
I tried to replace it would not go back into place. I noticed the beige/brown
plastic flap that drops used grounds into tray was holding the grounds
container and would not allow normal removal either without some jiggiling.
In between It also has shown an "Error 8" message. I've had this machine
for 2 1/2 yrs and except for a "leak" problem that resolved itself this is the
first time I've experienced this or any other problem. Any idea's? Thxs
when the machine is turned on....it reads "drawer missing" but the drawer won't go in. Something inside is blocking it from going in.
