I have a Yamaha HTR-5860 that drives the sound to my satellite television, CD player, DVD player etc.
Is there a way I can plug my Iphone 3G into the receiver so I can get good audio quality when I use the iphone's ipod function?
You need a headphone to RCA adapter cord, and then you just plug it into the headphone jack on the iPod (iPhone) and plug the two RCA plugs (red & white) into any sound inputs on the receiver and you're all set.

Hello. Without trying to step on anyone's toes, there is a dedicated adapter for this purpose. I'm sure you can get information on Apple's website. Then you can source this device anywhere on the Internet. The post earlier, although, in all honesty, I haven't looked at it, however using an amplified output, such as a headphone output, would greatly overload a line input(RCA input) if not attenuated. The output voltage from a headphone output, is quite a bit higher than what an RCA input should see, so the input would be greatly overloaded. That is why you need the proper adapter for this purpose.

Dave
