Hi, since you said you have tried new batteries and the problem still persist, i will advice you to put in the battery again and check it by pressing the home button on the wii remote and you can check the status of the battery by looking at the controller list that comes up when you push the home button.
If the battery is good, then try re-syncing the balance board by follow this instructions.
Step 1: Insert a wii balance board compatible game disc (so that it will be recognise by the wii console)
Step 2: Use the wii remote to select the disc channel from the wii menu, then select start to begin the game.
Step 3: Open the SD card slot cover on the front of the wii console
Step 4: Remove the battery cover on the bottom of the wii balance board.
Step 5: Press and release the SYNC button on the wii balance board. The power LED on the board will start blinking.
Step 6: Press and release the SYNC button on the console while the power LED on the board is still blinking
Step 7: The power LED will stop blinking and the light steadily once the synchronization is complete.

Thanks for advice - I've tried all this and board still comes up with "communications interrupted - please switch on" (at this point the blue led light at the balance board switch continually flashes). It happens every time I use the aerobic step routine,as well as occasionally during the rhythm boxing.
Ta for advice - tried all you said and problem persists. Batteries have been changed (although originals were fully charged). When "communications interrupted" probelm occurs, blue lights on board start flashing. I've also re-synced board several times.
