DVD system shuts down during DVD play with various parts of shows

My Sony DAV-FC7 goes into a "protect" mode (text on screen) during DVD playback. Happening more lately, especially with Starwars III. It appears to be related to audio tones, however, I have unplugged the subwoofer and had the same problem. I can be reached at [email protected]

I think this is the answer you are looking for.

Let me know if you need more help.

Knowledge Article C337191 Error: The message PROTECT or UNPLUG shows in the display.
Follow this procedure to troubleshoot when a PROTECT or UNPLUG error is displayed.
IMPORTANT: The top of the receiver must have proper ventilation to keep from over heating.

  1. Reduce the volume level.
  2. NOTE: If the receiver is played at the maximum volume level it may enter the PROTECT mode. Maximum volume listening will cause the receiver to run hot and drain the output capacitors.
  3. If both the A and B speakers are being powered by the receiver at the same time, turn off the surround sound option.
  4. If protect occurs only when using a DVD player, the sampling frequency may be set too high.
  5. NOTE: Some receivers provide compatibility with the higher sampling frequencies through alternate connections. Consult the user manual for specific information.
  6. Ensure the speaker wiring is not damaged and is properley connected to the back of the receiver and speakers.
  7. If the issue is still unresolved after completing all of the troubleshooting steps, service may be required.

Hi,

Normally Protect Mode is an indication of a system fault. Initially what I would suggest is to reset the unit by unplugging it for a number of hours.

Thereafter, pls give it a try again. Please post back for any developments or lack thereof.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back as requested, how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FIXYA.

Sony DAV-FC7 squeals

I had the same problem....but it kept taking longer and longer for it to quiet down, then eventually it just kept whining and I couldn't take it anymore...I had to stop using it for tv and only used it for DVDs (it didn't whine on the dvd function). I was going to get rid of the unit because my old tv died and I had to buy a new flat screen high-def unit, which needs a surround system to do it justice. I then noticed the digital optical connection on the Sony DAV-FC7 as well as my new Direct TV HD-DVR. I bought the optical cable for about $15 and hooked it up....and voila...NO MORE WHINE! If you have the optical connection option....try that route...it might work for you as it did for me. Good luck

FAC-FC7 DVD player is locked and the Standby indicator flashes

I had the same problem and searched FIX and found a solution for a Phillips DVD player that worked on my Sony DAV-FC7 dvd player. Someone posted that they called their Phillips Tech Service and was told to (a) unplug the dvd unit from the wall and wait 20 seconds, then (b) press the standby+plug the unit back into the wall at the same time and hold for 10 seconds. I did this for my Sony DAV-FC7 which would not power on nor eject (just red light on). IT WORKED!! after doing these steps, my SONY powered on and the rented DVD ejected. The dvd palyer works again. Thanks fellow FIXYA "posters".
