My Maytag Centennial washer jumps around during spin cycle. It moves 4-6 inches. Is this normal? I have checked that it is level, and I try to balance loads.

Snubber Ring and 6 springs. If you replace the snubber ring DO NOT LUBRICATE the snubber ring. This has to be put in dry and when replacing it, you should clean the area of contact with rubbing alcohol to prevent too much slipping around. Before changing this i would check ratcheting device that the rear legs are mounted to to ensure it is free. When you tilt the weight up off of the rear legs, you should hear it " click " as it's coming up off the floor. This centers the ratcheting device so the unit can sit solid with no rocking of the base during spine. You should also check the locking nuts on the front legs. They should be tightened against the main base so the legs cannot re-adjust during operation. When the unit is properly leveled, the unit will not rock because the legs are sharing the weight of the machine equally. ( Bubble leveling is not what this is referring to ). You should also check the main base. some of these were released from the factory with a main base that was constructed out of too thin a gauge metal. These are noticeable by excessive flexing of the main base during spin cycle. They also will develop a hair line crack from the flexing of the metal. You have to look closely between the motor and snubber dome to detect the crack if present. it is also possible for the transmission shaft to be bent, but not terribly likely. To tell if this is the case, remove the inner tub and run the unit in spin. Looking straight down at the transmission during spin will enable you to detect this as it will spin as a small circle instead of just spinning in the center. I hope this helps you out.
check to make sure it is sitting level on the floor and one leg adjuster hasnt backed in making it shake. But even when you stick cloths in evenly they can bunch up during cycles.
We have the same problem. The Normal cycle still works, but after the final spin cycle, water is again added (1 gal est.) and the machine stops. Problem occurred after washing an old 25 x 30 inch rug which partially disentegrated when washed. We were seeing particles of the rug in subsequent wash cycles during drain into laundry tub. Don't know if something is plugged in the washer or if it is something else. In another load after the rug wash, the top of the washer was lifted during the wash cycle. The water problem occurred immediately after lifting the lid as the wash load went through remaining cycles. Maybe this affected the timer? Maytag customer service suggested unplugging power cord to re-set timer. This didn't make any difference. We need a technician to tell us if this is a timer problem or something else?
With the washer empty, tilt it front a few inches and drop it back down. This will re-level the legs. If it still jumps around, replace the drum snubber, inside the front of the machine. It's a rubber pad that keeps the drum from moving around too much. Snubbers dry out with age.
first of all if this is a new washer you need to make sure all the shipping straps or bolts are off. one way to find out is to open the door reach and grab on to the tub it supposed to be able to move up down and side to side. if not then the shipping bolts has not been removed.
if you can make it rock by hand or by jumping the legs are not adjusted proper.it can also rock if the floor is soft... then get thick plywood under the washer ....11/2 inch should be good.you should try to balance the load put heavy things in first
I Can help
1: Unplug the Washer, turn off hot cold supply to Hoses.
2: Turn Washer around and remove Cover on Back.
3: Look at the "Belt" pull on it to see if it is Loose.
4: Check the "Pulleys" The "Belt" is connected to. Look for Signs of "Blackness" Caused by the Belt Wearing.
5: If thats the case just Replace the Belt.
Hope it helped
