The phone works fine. I can recieve and dial out, but my screen is completely black. Before it went completely black, it was fading. How can I fix this without having to take it in?
It sounds like the backlight in he LCD display has gone bad in the phone. Most displays now have an integrated backlight, so the entire display will need to be replaced. Its not considered to be a user replaceable component. Unfortunately, you'll have to take it to be repaired. The fact that you said it was "fading" before it completely went black tells me that it was going bad and about to fail.
Here's another thing to try before you take it for repair:
Try this:
Open the phone and turn it over so that the camera is facing you. Place your thumb in the area between the camera lens and volume up & down buttons. Place a finger underneath the same relative area. When you're in the right position, squeeze your fingers and the cases together. This reseats the ribbon cable located in that area. Thanks to GEngineering for that tip.

Well i suggest that you take the case of your phone and have a look at your screen maybe some of the screws have gone missing or the screen has just worn itself out? . Note youll need a t6 or t7 torx screwdriver to do this , hope i helped
the white and black screen issue on the Razr V3xx can be a bad LCD. If the LCD is good then the issue is on the main board. The most common failure is broken contacts on FL6505 and FL6504. resoldering might hold up for a while but replacement is the best option.
the side view clearly shows the damage to the filter. this is only visible after the solder is removed.
i have that same problem, razrs suck, i hate em!! my screen is black, i can make and recieve calls...but my screen wont turn on, this is the 3rd time its happened...first time just restarted it...second time i let it sit without the battery in for over night...now it wont turn on no matter what...and the shiy silver circle peice on the left of the phone, the smooth one, it broke and fell off the phone, and i lost it at school...cingular is saying that voids the warrenty...
