My brother innovis machine has a problem. Top thread frays and breaks, not not seem to be picking up bobbin thread properly. I have changed the needle tried a previous bobbin.

Be sure to install a brand new needle--check that the needle eye is the correct size for the thread you are using--a small needle eye will shred heavy thread. It may also help to remove the top thread from the machine, ALWAYS RAISE the presser foot and rethread from the beginning. Verify the thread path is correct. Try different thread--AVOID old or bargain bin thread. Check that the upper tension is not too tight.

If the top does not pick up the bobbin thread, the machine may be out of time.

Otherwise, there may be a burr or snag somewhere along the thread path that is catching and fraying the thread. Sometimes there is a snag in the bobbin area (possibly the needle plate or hook) that is rubbing the thread.

Twin needle tension problem

Hi, Tania
Chances are that you're using a universal point twin needle, designed for sewing on woven fabrics. Twin needles also come with a ballpoint which is what you need for knit fabrics
A ballpoint or stretch needle has a rounded tip that will separate the knit fibers as it penetrates the fabric instead of breaking through them. A universal needle may not catch the bobbin thread on both needles when used on knit fabrics; this is necessary for proper stitch formation.

Thread nests

try changing the needle--make sure the needle is turned the right
way--and that the needle is the correct one for the fabric being
sewed--example--cotton fabric take one kind of needle and stretch
fabric take another kind of needle
try rethreading the machine top thread and bobbin
make sure to use every thread guide
make sure the bobbin is not over full
make sure the bobbin is turned the right way in the bobbin case
if the bobbin and bobbin case have to be inserted togeather,,
make sure that the bobbin case is secure and snug in the machine
make sure the thread does not come off the thread take up lever

Can't seem to thread the machine properly so's I can use twin needle and pin tuck foot. Keeps de-activating the machine, so obviously not threading it properly, but can't understand the instruction book.

when you insert the twin needles, & add the 2nd spool of thread,, you just thread the machine the same way as with a single needle,,
that's what I do & it works just fine
