When I get a phone call the fax kicks in. How can I adjust the setting to turn on only if a fax sound comes in?

You can add more rings to answer, but the only real way is to get distinctive ring from your phone co. or a separate line for fax. When you change the setting to manual receive, you have to answer yourself and if you hear fax tones you hang up and press fax start, or receive.

The ring is very loud when a fax comes in, volume control where?

This needs clarification. Is it the Handset on the machine that is ringing? If so there is a small slider control on the handset that can be adjusted down with a paper clip. But if the fax itself is to loud you'llneed to go inot programming and selct the Monitor Volume and set it lower or off.
