Also, if you buy tips get them from Weller. I bought an off brand tip, it seemed like it fit, but not tight enough and it would not transfer the heat and I could not solder with it.

I thought the station was defective but not so. It was just the imitation tip that I bought.

    The fake tip was tight,
But still would not get hot enough to work correctly.

SOURCE: Hi!

Bill, i would use a connector with the correct number of ends made for a radio. you could probally find them at radio shack. be sure to connect the right wire to the right pin on each. you would need male and female. then the next question is yes four screws under the rubber feet

SOURCE: I have a Weller 1002B soldering station. Haven't

Hi, I'm not sure the tip is defective. Check that the tip is screwed in tight. If it is not good and tight the tip will not get a good heat transfer from the solder wand. Hope this helps. If the wand will heat then the tip should.

This usually happens when the element and or the temperature sensor within fails replace the element sensor assembly and this should fix it, however also check first that the Triac is OK on the main board inside.

After a few minutes of use, my WESD51 read out goes up to 902F but the tip is actually very cool (like 350F - 400F). If I put a load on the tip, it straightens out for a while, goes back to the set temp....

I was searching this and accidentally found the answer. Just for future reference, the issue with mine was the contacts between the station and the tip, where you have to lock it. Wiggling it would get rid of the error, so I looked at the contacts (the pins that go into it) and sure enough they were mildly corroded. I brushed them off a little bit and it worked fine. If I get a new tip, I'd look into something that prevents rust, possibly WD-40, to prolong the life.

When i plug it in it goes to 902 degress but does not get hot and when i turn the heat down it goes up to 902

I had the same problem with mine. Try pushing or twisting the cord entering the soldering iron pencil. The temperature sensor can become disconnected if the cord gets twisted.

The solder station (power unit) is turning itself off randomly

I have heard that some of these had a failure on the regulator circuit that was packaged on a ceramic substrate with the control pot. Not sure if yours is this type.
