If you enter an improper fraction or a mixed fraction with the the [a b/c] key it will be displayed as a fraction. This result being displayed you can press the [F-D] key to convert the fraction to decimal. If you do nothing else and you press the [F-D] key again, the original fraction will be restored.

However, it seems that you cannot enter an arbitrary decimal number and convert it to a fraction. The [F-D] key seems to work one way : from a fraction to a decimal number. You will only recover a fraction if the original number was a fraction.

SOURCE: changing decimals to fractions

You can always convert a fraction to a decimal. The reverse may not always be possible. Look at the example on the screen capture.

You may be lucky and recover a fraction you have just converted into decimal format, but you cannot just write 0.333333333333 and expect the calculator to convert it to 1/3: The true fraction 1/3 has an infinite number of 3's after the decimal mark.

Hello,
Since you bent on deactivating the very features that make your calculator so versatile and so powerful, here it is.
Press [SHIFT][MODE][2:LineIO] and you will see no more fractions, nor radicals etc. You asked for it.
Hope it helps.

Testimonial: "I bought the calculator because it was on sale and I like Casio calculators; not for its fractional abilities. I can easily switch it back now. Thanks"

SOURCE: Problem for Casio FX-260 Calculator Changing

To force a fraction to be displayed as a decimal number put a decimal mark at the end of the numerator OR the denominator. Fraction/decimal result is always decimal.

I have a Casio fx-300ES calculator and everytime i push in a math problem it comes out as decimal form or fraction form. I don;t exactly know whats wrong with it, but it never gives me the right answer to...

I understand your frustration, but believe me there is nothing wrong with your calculator. You just have to invest a minimum amount of time to familiarize yourself with its powerful capabilities.
No matter. Your calculator has to input output modes. MathIO and LineIO. MthIO is new and it allows you to enter expressions as if you were doing it by hand (like in textbooks). LineIO is the old way.

In MthIO your displayed results are fractions or radicals (roots) or a mixture of the two. BUT if the screen cannot fit the fraction or radical form, the calculator will use decimal to display the result.

In LineIO you only have decimals results.

To get fraction or radical results configure the calculator to use MthIO. In this mode, if you want a result converted to decimal, just press the SD key. It will toggle between the two.

To set MthIO, press [SHIFT][MODE] and select [1:MthIO]
To set LineIO, press [SHIFT][MODE] and select [2:LineIO]
