I am also having a hard time finding dvds that will record in my dvd player recorder. I am still buying and returning dvds!!!

It is telling me to eject my disk as it won't playback, what kind should I buy?

  • Anonymous Feb 01, 2009

I also have a Sylvania DVR90VF that will not load a new disc. I keep getting a Disc Error, Please eject the disc, Playback feature may not be available on this disc. I am using 16x DVD-R Disc . Cannot find 2x 4x or 8x disc that I was told to use by Customer Support. I had no problem burning 1/2 spool (25) of these same discs before.
Sylvania Customer Support sucks. This unit should record on any DVD-R disc no mater what the burn speed. What a piece of junk. PLEASE HELP, Lenny

I am having a similar problem with my Sylvania DVR90VF. I am using a Fujifilm disc (DVD-RW) that writes at speeds of 1x to 2x. It was working fine for the first year. I was able to record my TV shows and play them back with no problem. All of a sudden it is not recognizing the disc and I get an error message. Do you have any solutions for this?

  • chetster57 Mar 10, 2009

Same problem as others have noted - won't recognize new disks anymore (even though I did the format upgrade two years ago). I'll certainly be staying away from Sylvania DVD recorders in the future!

Unfortunately without a firmware upgrade the only disks you can use are DVD-R or DVD-RW. The tricky part is that you can ONLY USE 2X speed. Per my conversation with Sylvania there is a firmware update that will allow you to use up to 8x disks, but they are charging $17.00 for it.

I use MAXELL DVD-RW 4.7 GB 2X 15-pk (2 hrs in SP Mode), and they work just fine. UPC 25215-62768. I usually get them on sale at Office Depot for $ 6.99 (regular $20 or so).

Trying to record on a DVD-R , after several minutes trying to load i get a msg saying it can neither read nor play this disc , check disc,,please help

I've had this problem with trying to record on CD-Rs also. DVD and CD recorders can be very fussy. You just have to get a piece of dust or a fingerprint on the CD or DVD that's being recorded onto and it gets kicked back as a check disc or blank disc..

Another problem is some recorders will only accept certain brands. I've had problems recording onto a SONY CD-R with a SONY recorder! So, in summing up, try a different brand or make sure the disc is clean. Sometimes just taking the disc out and putting it back in in a different position will make the recorder think it's an OK disc. Hope this helps.

I HAVE A EWR20V4 EMERSON DVD RECORDER. I HAVE BEEN USING MAXELL DVD-RW W/LOGO SHOWN IN MANUAL120 MIN | UP TO/MAX 2X. AS FAR AS I KNOW, THESE STILL ARE RECORDABLE AS SOME ARE NOT YET FULL. I COULD NOT...

yes all the DVD recorders are very sensitive to what brand is fed to them......go back to your ole faithful Maxell here are 3 sites you can try......J & R music, Amazon.com or Ebay

  1. http://www.jr.com/product/productListing.jsp?Ntt=maxell+dvd+blank
  2. http://www.amazon.com/gp/search/ref=sr_tref_p_brandtextbin_1?rh=n%3A1036658%2Cp_brandtextbin%3AMaxell%2Ck%3Advd+blank+media&keywords=dvd+blank+media&ie=UTF8&qid=1282862945&rnid=15784691
  3. http://shop.ebay.com/i.html?rt=nc&LH_BIN=1&_nkw=maxell+dvd&_trksid=p3286.c0.m301
note if you updated (firmware) your player you may need to purchase the dvd w/ 4x-16 speed..

Dvd player wont play

Make sure that the DVD Disc is of the format that your DVD recorder can read. For example, if your recorder specifically requires a DVD -R type disk, it will puke on a DVD +R disk.
