Importing Pics from SDHC or Compact Flash Card Hangs on Vista PC

I am not able to import all pictures from either a 3+ year old SanDisk 2GB Compact Flash card or from a brand new SanDisk 8GB SDHC card on a HP Pavilion Elite m9400t running Vista Home Premium 64 bit. The importing process always hangs after importing some pictures whether I import using default Windows or using Picasa. I have a built in 5-1 card reader om my PC.
I have tried various things such as re-formating my old Compact Flash card as well as tried to import using a separate card reader. It always seems to hang after importing some number of pictures (the number of pictures imported varies from one attempt to another). Don't have any problems with these cards on a Apple Power Book as well as on my older Dell PC running XP.
Any help or suggestion would be much appreciated.
thanks

Willell, Thanks for your response. However, problem persists after installing suggested driver and re-booting desktop.

Canon Power Shot SD450 Digital Elph camera started to say "no memory card" when there is Sandisk 2GB in there? What can i do?

2 things the memory card and the recovery of your files.
Your camera was produced in 2005 and in those days only MMC and SD cards could be used. A few years later the SDHC came and 2011 SDXC came. devices are downward compatible. So newer cameras can use also SD cards. But older cameras can't use newer memory cards. Even a SDHC can't be used in your camera. And although I managed to buy a 4GB SD card a few years ago, now they only produce SDHC and SDXC cards. Yes be aware a 1 GB or 2 GB card now ar most of the time SDHC.
Check your card, when it says SDHC, don't try to us it, it won't work.

Then the photos from your parents. It looks we never have taken enough pictures.
When you have old memory cards, please don't use them till you checked if there are still "deleted" pictures on them.
Deleted is most of the time just clearing the pointers to the files. The files in most cases stay on the card.
Try to download some software from this site:
Memory Card Data Recovery
Then run the software, when you have a memory card in a memory card reader and see if it can find "deleted" pictures. Be aware when you use a card with "deleted" pictures, the space that came free, will be used to put new pictures there. SO don't use the cards till you did recover everything to the computer.

There are more free recover program's. I have one form Sandisk, I got it for free with a sands memory card. Login on that site to and see if they still have free program's for Sandisk users.

I have a sandisk 2gb will it automatically load my pictures from my phone onto the memory card that was already in my phone

The answer is NO. Do the following if you want to have all your pics on the memory card.

1. Insert the card into the phone.

2. From Menu slect the pictures that you want on the card.

3. Move them to the card. After that they will be deleted from the phones memory.

4. Configure your camera to save all pictures to this folder on the memory card for future.

My Sandisk micro card works fine in my phone, but my computer nor my photo printer will recognize it when it is in the adapter that came with it. Is there something that has to be done with the adapter or...

Hello, it depends how old your equipment is as SD cards and SDHC are not necessarily compatible, so if your pc and printer were designed in pre-SDHC days, then you probably wont get any success trying to reading your card.
SD cards only support 2gb max, and in order to support larger capacity for the same style card, the mapping of SDHC cards is totally different, so SD-supported equipment can't 'understand' the new mapping circuitry.
There's some interesting reading in Wikipedia which might clarify things better than my explanation.
Of course, this might not be the solution, but it's worth trying out an SD card if you have one, but I've noticed that SDHC cards are being advertised as SD cards; the only clue that they're actually SDHC is in the capacity, ie, >2gb.

My computer wont read my sdhc card

If you know that your CF card is working (e.g. as in your camera) then the most likely cause is your computer Flash/CF reader either inbuilt or external): older readers (and cameras/phones) will not support High Capacity (xxHC) card and will be limited to a maximum of 2GB. Hope it helps.

SanDisk ULTRA II 8GB won't read when installed in a laptop. Works fine in the Digital camcorder. Trying to import the footage on to a Fujitsu tablet laptop (12 months old). Reads the standard 2Gb memory...

No, it's a hardware issue. Your 8GB card is an SDHC card (the HC stands for High Capacity), but the card reader in your machine is clearly only compatible with the older type SD cards. SDHC devices will accept SD cards, but devices designed solely for SD cards cannot read or format SDHC cards.

There is no firmware update for this, your only fix is to buy an external reader compatible with SDHC cards for connection via a USB socket. Most new readers are fully SDHC compliant, but check the specs for shelling out your hard-earned...
