Can any one please help me instructions on how to unlock a Panasonic DMR-EH57 dvd recorder to allow it to play dvds from multiple regions?
I sent an e-mail to Panasonic New Zealand to ask about this, and they advised:
"Panasonic NZ no longer pre set DVD recorders or players
for all region multi-zones.
However, we will multi-zone for all
regions on request.
This needs to be done by an
Authorised Service Centre, as a special service remote is
used.
Once delivered to one of these
agents, the service company will charge the fee to Panasonic
NZ."
If you're not in NZ, try contacting Panasonic in your own country. Just call up www.panasonic with your country code after eg. US = .com and NZ = .co.nz. It seems a *lot* easier than all those complicated hacks on the net. Now all I have to do is work out how to disconnect my DVD recorder again, and try to
PS. I realise this question is 11 months old by now, but I hope my response helps someone like me just cruising the internet looking for help.
Just got the multi-zoning done by the Panasonic engineer. Is a 5 minute job, provided there is someone on-site to do it. Get in quickly, it is free provided you bought your recorder within last 12 months (done under warranty).
Now I can watch all my DVDs. One additional problem though, is that I must manually switch my recorder between NTSC and Pal when I am watching an NTSC DVD, and if I am recording something at the same time, the picture is very distorted. Anyone know a fix for this? NTSC seems to be used in the USA (curiously my Father Ted DVDs from Amazon.co.uk are made in the US), but the UK-recorded DVDs are fine to play in Pal (system used in NZ).

Region free hacks
On
this page you can find everything about region hacking your player. As
this site was also the place where the generic Panasonic DVD player
region hacks originated from, it also covers almost any other Panasonic
DVD player.

Thanks for your help. I do not have ready access to any of the tools required but fortunately managed to find someone to fix it for me. I have archived the instructions and downloaded the files for the laptop IR solution in case I run into problems again.

How do I unlock my Panasonic DMR-EH57.
I have just moved to NZ and have many UK DVD's which I cannot play - very frustrating.
Did you find the sollution?

I have the same problem. I purchased some genuine DVD's in Australia and some were from a different zone. Please advise how to convert to multizone.
Well, I looked up this DVD recorder on the internet before I bought it and it said it was region-free, but mine is stuck on region 4 (NZ) and I can't get it off. My portable region-free player was smashed in an earthquake, so now I don't have one, apart from my PS2 which has its limitations for DVD watching.
The PSP instructions were interesting, but the website to download "IR shell" is down (permanently I think). Is there anywhere else I can get this program? I would really like to try this method, as it uses equipment I have already.
One site suggested taking it to a service engineer. Does this need to be a Panasonic one? I don't know if I would find one around here. Or will all TV/DVD repair people know how to do this? Is it even legal, will an honest service engineer still be able to help me?
