My daughter played with my Panasonic SW-9585-C dvd drive. She pressed the eject button so many times. Then when I start my computer, the drive opens by itself then I'll push it to close then it will open again and won't close. I can't play any discs on it and even my CD drive was affected. It's not opening and it doesn't have power light. I called DELL support and she just asked me to check the data and power cable and it's all ok, then run regedit but it didn't solve the problem.
Please help. I just bought this dvd drive and I've been using it to burn pictures on dvd and my kids watching animated books. Now I can't use it.
Thank you.
Mary
Mary, there is no quick easy solution which will not invlolve your getting your hands "dirty" a bit. Try uninstalling the drive in your computers device manager first of all to see if after you do this and reboot your computer it is still opening, if it is it is an issue with the drive iteself NOT with windows. If the drive has malfunctioned in this manner replacing it is your best alternative but you can TRY this...
In the front of your drive should ( should ) be a little hole near the eject button under the cd tray, it is just right for putting a paper clip which has been straightened oout into it. Try pushing a paper clip into it untill you feel it hit something. What you feel there is an emergency eject button, with pressure on this button try to "cycle" the drive by hitting the eject button and holding in pressure on the paper clip. Hopefully you will reset drives tray to reverse its order. Good Luck
Thank you christalnet.you're a life saver.i did what you said.and after ejecting it for like 3 times and closed it again it didn't open by itself.thank you so much.
Run msconfig.
I had the same problem. I ran msconfig by following the directions and the windows system figured itself out.
Find your children less expensive paper books or a portable dvd unit. They should not be near the computer its too expensive to fix, replace, etc.
Click on Start, Run, and type regedit and press Enter
Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
SYSTEM
CurrentControlSet
Control
Class
{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column.
Upper Filters
Lower Filters
Upper Filters.bak
Lower Filters.bak
If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose Delete
After deleting the keys, close the registry editor
Reboot your computer
Open My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drives have returned. You may also want to open Device Manager and verify that the yellow exclamation and error code on the CD or DVD drive is gone.
hope it helps
