I have a Maytag ''quiet series'' 300 dishwasher that is approximately 3 years old. Recently it has begun to make a loud screeching noise, particularly during the beginning and end phase of the cycle. The noise seems to be coming from the base of the dishwasher. By way of trouble shhoting, i removed the plastic covers at the bottom of the dishwasher and cleaned all removable parts which were covered in heavy limescale deposits. i also found and removed some foreign bodies, including a wooden toothpick. However, on the first cycle after cleaning, the screeching noise resumed. Any ideas? could it be the pump/belt?

Shows the breakdown of the moving parts. There are categories for problems like noise etc.

FYI... I followed Miss Midget's steps... and there it was... a piece of plastic... actually one of the end caps from the rack. Poor design if you ask me. So for all you "grinders" out there, it's an easy fix... just need the appropriate star screwdriver. It went back together easier than it did taking it apart. Thanks.

Hi jeffwirch,
I'm Harvey the Master Plumber.
Your problem is: You have a maytag quiet series 300. When it is done with any of the cycles in leaves about 1-2 inches of water in the bottom of the dishwasher. You can manually hit the start button twice and it will go through a 2 minute cycle and pump out the water. You have cleaned the filter inside the dishwasher where it drains and have checked the hose to the disposal and it pumps out fine. It just doen't pump itself at the end of the cycle.
It sounds like a bad control board. It's in the top of the door panel. I don't recomend this repair to the average homeowner. You might consider the Repair Directory to find a repairman.

sounds like the macerator is bent out of shape from something going through the pump. Get a impeller kit and replace all the parts and you should lose the grinding noise. I can look up the part number if you want

look for odjects in the pump cutter ie glass plastic or the cutter is bent or a rushing sound could be motor bearings

Is the water filling up and then draining out? Mine did this and a part was broken inside the unit. The part was five dollars and called a lifter. I fixed it myself.
