I'm having the same problem. I have the PS3, and the Toshiba HD A2. I'm also using a 3 way HDMI hooked into the Game/Tv hdmi slot 1. And my HD Sat in the DVD HDMI slot 2. My Dvd's have True HD and the other advanced logos, rush hour 3 even has 7.1, but I haven't heard any of these advanced sounds yet. It keeps saying pcm 48 hertz. I have the Ps3 set to LPCM, and the HD DVD to PCM as well. In order for me to get the 7 speakers to produce sound I have to set the receiver to the P II movie setting. But I know that not true hd, or true 7.1.

I just posted the previous question, and needed to add that all my source formats are set to Direct. The receiver only seems to respond when I change the first one in the list, the analog one at the top.

PS3 and many bluray players do this encoding internally. Therefore all the amp sees is pcm.

True HD can only work with HDMI interface and is only available on some newer HD DVDs. Check the DVD to see if the True HD encoding is available.

Are you connected by HDMI? If so, your HDMI board may be faulty. I was having major drop outs with picture and sound until I got it replaced.

Contrary to the instructions included with most AVR's...

You don't need to take video out from the TV to the receiver. Once it gets to the TV it has found its ultimate destination.

And you don't NEEDS to GET audio FROM a TV either, unless it tunes stations from its own antenna.

Otherwise the SAT/Cable box can provide analog audio to the TV for watching lo-fi programming like news with the Onkyo OFF; and you can run digital multichannel directly to the Onkyo for its special treatment.

Running either hi-end audio or high-end video to a device that doesn't absolutely need it wastes expensive cabling and introduces a couple more connections to worry about.

Sound won't play through Onkyo TX-SR605 when using HDMI

The chances are that you have selected an incorrect sound setting or not switched it on, for the HDMI you are using. With Onkyo receivers each connection will have it own settings for video and sound. You just need to look in the manual as to how to select the settings.

You will have to connect your coax to the tv coax input. You can view cable this way.To use the hdmi input to tv,you will have to change your input settings back and forth on the tv menu from hdmi to rf input. There is no way to hook your cable to the txsr.
