When drying clothes in my gas dryer, you can smell gas upon opening the door. If the dryer is not running, you do not smell a gas odor. Sometimes our clothes also have a gas smell.This just started a week ago. As soon as you open up the dryer, it smells of gas. I've tried changing dryer sheets thinking it was from using generic dryer sheets, but the smell still persisted. If the dryer is not running, you do not smell gas. Have you cleaned the dryer? You should clean out the heating coil area at least once a year. Lint can build up and burn and the odor is drawn into the dryer when it runs.

venting issue, if you have windows or a door by the dryer open when in use, should clear the smell. hope this helped Tim

run an empty load in the washer but add 3 cups of vinager and set the washer to hat wash, this will help kill the smell, After you get done running it leave the door open this will stop it from happening again

Usually when a gas dryer overheats it's because of a defective cycling thermostat or a clogged vent system. Clean any lint from the internal and external ductwork, and/or replace the cycling thermostat . If you don't clean out the lint trap frequently, your dryer may have small lint fires inside the cabinet. The smell from these fires can leave a strong odor in the clothes drum.

Also, if there are any solvents, paints, lacquers, etc. in use in the house, your dryer may alter and/or amplify the fumes to an odor unlike the natural fumes given by the solvent, paint, etc.

Here's what to do:

• First, clean all of the lint from the inside cabinet and ductwork of your dryer.



• Have a qualified appliance repair technician inspect the dryer for damage caused by any lint fire.



• Move all containers of flammable liquids at least 50 feet away from the dryer. Gas dryers have a large flame when operating properly and can ignite the fumes of any flammable liquid or gas.



• Then, try to clear the odor, by running a couple of loads of old rags or towels.

Run a load empty on the hottest setting with a cup of bleach.

Then, after finished using the machine each day, leave the door open for a few hours to allow the rubber seal to dry.

Sometime recently there has been a petroleum product used in the house. Possibly an oil based paint, stain, varnish, adhesive or some form of cleaning product.

Anyone of these products or many others like them, contain a distillate of liquid. Check around the house.

Until that oil based product dries or cures, the odor and vapors will remain and so will the dryer smell.

At the end of the drying cycle, use the air fluff cycle to purge out the smell. Besure to return the selector on the dryer back to it's prior postition.

Gas dryers will often give clothing a kerosene like odor if the above conditions have occurred. Any sprays or aerosols can have the same effect. Unfortunately only removal of the culprits and time will alleviate this.

that's because it's brand new. See if it goes away in a month. After a load has dried leave the door open for a bit. What does it smell like?

Have you checked your outside vent while it was running to see if the dryer was venting 100%. If your clothes are hot and humid I would say clean your vent pipe has a blockage and needs to be cleaned out. Also as far as the burning smell you could take the front off (unplug first) the dryer of by removing 4 screws one above and one below the latch and two at the bottom and there are two clips one at the top left and right push in with a puddy knife and lift the top up a couple inches and lift the front up off the bottom holders. Then you will have access to vacuuming the lint that is floating around the burner.
