I have a Nikon D80 and the battery is flashing low, but it wont let me take any pics or do anything really. Is it supposed to do that? It's not dead though, just low battery.

If you turn off your flash you might get a picture or two more,The flash consumes probably 3/4 of the battery.I have Sony,HP,Fuji, and Cannon cameras, they walk thru batteries like they're free for the taking.

Error message on nikon d80

The ERR message indicates a camera malfunction. In my D-90 manual it says that it can be cleared by releasing the shutter. The only way to do that is to turn the camera off and back on. Rarely, that won't work and you have to remove and reinstall the battery.

The manual also says that it this have frequently or persist to contact a Nikon authorized service center. I would contact Nikon tech support at www.Nikon.com and discuss the problem them before contacting an authorized service center.

My d80 is flashing fee and wont take no pics

You're apparently using a lens with an aperture ring. Turn the ring to its smallest opening (largest f/number). You can control the aperture from the camera body, the same way as on a lens without an aperture ring.
If this doesn't do it, please reply to this post specifying the lens(es) you're using.

I have nikon D80 purchased about 1.5 yrs. ago. After taking less than 10 pictures, I see a flashing battery sign saying low in battery even when I had charged the battery full. If I turn the camera off and...

Nice camera! I have one too, and really enjoy it. I suspect you are running the original firmware. There is a new firmware version 1.11 that specifically addresses this problem. The download and instruction page is below:

Low Battery Indcator Flashes

You can check the status of your battery, including chargeble life remaining, in the Setup Menu. You need to have the CSM/Setup menu option to display Full menus, not Simple, in order to get battery status. So see if that battery status selection says you need to replace the battery.

Since you can shake the camera to get full battery, it's possible the battery contacts (on the battery or in the camera) are dirty, so check that.

If you do need a new battery, spend the few extra bucks to get a genuine Nikon EN-EL3e from a Nikon dealer. I have learned that many off-brand batteries do not properly implement a needed reserve, and "Genuine Nikon" batteries bought online from non-dealers are often counterfeit, just relabeled junk.
