Having read the other reviews here, I was prepared for the cryptic "VENTILATE" message. (The manual refers to this procedure as "Loading the circuit", which doesn't help to clarify things.) Of course this refers to what Americans would call "priming" the machine. As mentioned in another review, there is a plastic hand pump supplied for priming, but that is only needed in the event that the electric pump fails to self-prime. All I had to do (following the quick-start instructions) was to select the Hot Water function; the internal pump quickly primed itself. clean machine with the Saeco scale remover thank you ,Lee Davidian

Keep getting ventilate message - won't ventilate and cannot operate steam or grinder w/ ventilate message

Try this run the hot water cycle for a few seconds, it that works, try steaming if you get the message again clear it by running the hot water cycle and then go to steaming, this time push in on the knob after you open it, it that works, then the tap rod or the valve assembly needs to be replaced.

Error message "Ventilate"

Hi
That means the pump needs to be primed by running water through the wand. Push the water button for water(the drop symbol) You will hear the pump change tone when it primes and the light or message will disappear. If you have a restriction in the intake line the message will not go away. There is a flow meter inside the machine that measures water flow. If the flow meter does not spin when the pump is running, the computer thinks that the pump is not primed. Ventilate

New Royal espresso machine

It means you have an airlock in the water system. It can occur when you refill the water tank also.
Quite often you can run the hot water nossle untill the airlock clears. You will hear it splatter and then it should be sweet to go.
