Subwoofer will not work when connected

I have connected the subwoofer to the pre-amp out on the back of my dolby 5.1 receiver. The subwoofer has worked for a few years but now is not working. The power on the subwoofer still comes on, but no sound will come out. Receiver settings are for a subwoofer to be connected. I removed the subwoofer speaker from the unit and hooked the speaker directly to speaker wires for the front speakers and the speaker itself plays sound, so I know the speaker isn't blown. What can be the problem?

Will a pioneer receiver vsx d309 run 2 8 ohm speakers and 1 jl audio w3

It will drive the speakers but not the subwoofer. U need to connect the subwoofer pre- output from your amplifier to another amplifier that will drive the subwoofer.
If you connect the subwoofer directly to your amplifiers speaker output it will force the subwoofer to play the entire spectrum of frequencies (not designed to do that) consequently causing damage to the sub and maybe even the amp. So use the sub pre out.

hope this helped

Get a separate amp for the 901's and the rest falls into place.

1,2, 5) Place the 901 Active EQ between the pre/main front OUT of the receiver and the TFM-55X. Attach the 901's. Keep track of the jumpers you remove from the receiver. Or replace the jumpers with RCA splitter cables so you still have pre/main connection but can share the output with the TFM.

3) Pinnacle subwoofer (self-powered?) to the subwoofer out of the receiver.

4) Bose (AMS???) 5. As surrounds on the receiver. Place the sub module toward the rear so it mates sonically and directionally with them.

What? No center speaker? I'd get something more robust with bass capabilities, like a pair Bose 301 series 1's because the tweeters face in one direction only.

Except for the amps and the cube stuff that is essentially what I have. 6.1 with full-range speakers everywhere.

Kenwood 107VR rec and No vol from Sub Output w/ menu Opt On

In the setup menu are the speakers set to large or small? On some receivers if you have it set to large all the bass is directed to the right-left fronts.
On my pioneer receiver if the speakers are set to large the sub-pre-out only works if the receiver is in a surround mode, if its in stereo mode and the speakers are set to large the sub-pre-out is dead. If the speakers are set to small the sub-pre-out works all the time.
Also, some receivers won't send a signal to the sub-pre-out if there is no LFE discreet signal info from the dolby digital or dts bitstreem.
For example I have several older dvd's that light up the L C R SL SR icons on my receiver, but don't light up the LFE icon. I have other older dvd's that just light up the L and R icons meaning they are only recorded in stereo like a vhs tape recorded in dolby surround.
In my basement I also have a kenwood dolby digital receiver.
I've noticed that when a dvd only lights up the left and right icons the pioneer will automatically switch to dolby pro logic surround. The kenwood will only send the signal to the left and right fronts (stereo). If I manually switch it (kenwood) to dolby pro logic I'll get sound from all the speakers just like the pioneer, but it does'nt do it by itself.
Most receivers that have a tape monitor won't work in surround mode with the tape monitor on. The pioneer will let me use the tape monitor with dolby pro-logic but won't pass through a dolby digital signal with the monitor on.
Hope this helps.

Subwoofer wont work

on the back of your pioneer audio/video receiver, you will plug the cable into the subwoofer pre out (back of your receiver) then connect this same cable to your subwoofer.

I have connected the subwoofer to the pre-amp out

One of two things may be going on.

The amp has a fuse mounted on the PC board. The fuse may be blown.

The speaker may be bad. that may have blown the fuse.

You can test the speaker with a "D" battery.
Take the amp section out of the back, disconnect the speaker leads.
Touch the speaker leads to the poles of the battery. it should make a little thump and the cone should move freely.

HI,go into the yam setup menu and make sure you have the sub turned on and cross over set to about 80hrtz if this suits your speakers, set sub level to about -5 on amp and say half way on the sub, this should work if not pull out sub cable at amp and touch the end,you should get a hum,if not you may have no power, faulty cable or sub.
PS>make sure you are pluged into the sub PRE OUT and NOT the six channel in.
Hope this helps.

Subwoofer not working on onkyo tx-sr600

Have you connected the Subwoofer out to the "Pre-out Subwoofer" on the left bottom corner jack(looking from the back)?

Have you set subwoofer out in the menu(under speaker settings or similar menu you will find all the channels that you have connected and here you should have "YES" for the subwoofer)?

Tuning speaker system denon avr 2400

You need to check on the operation of your receiver regarding the use of the subwoofer output line. If it does not satisfy you, better get a better receiver or A/V control pre-amp system with lots of features in the subwoofer circuitry. Google (internet) might help you with your specific model.

Subwoofer: Active or non active?

Hello Smegboy,

Yes, you are right. This receiver is rated at 100WRMS output in all 5 channels (2-front, 1-center and 2-surround) while in Dolby Pro Logic operation. The subwoofer output is line level only (not amplified), which means you need a powered subwoofer to be connected to this output. A non-powered subwoofer could be used but, you need an additional amplifier connected to the subwwofer output from the receiver to drive it.
Let me know if this helps.
