My router routes to my laptop within my house and

My router is downstairs in my house and my laptop will pick up internet signal within my house and if I'm next to it. When I go into an addition that was added on to my house, the laptop has a VERY weak internet signal and I can't get on. Why is this happening.

What distance is there between the laptop in the extention and the wireless router. What router is it? What band is it on? Could just to too far or there is a lot of building structure between the two. Is there anything that might interfere with the signal in the new extention. Is the router sat on anything metal? How many brick walls between the two devices?

The possible cause is the router is not able to extend the signal to that range. Try using a range extender to boost your wireless signal. Signal strength depends on the router. So adding a range extender should solve this issue

I have a netgear wndr3400 wifi route in use. It is located in my office at home. It is upstairs in the front of the house. My laptop is downstairs in the rear of the house. The system works but does drop...

WNDR3400 is a dual band WiFi router.
In case your Laptop has Wireless N card then you can can use Wireless N on WiFi else you need to use Wireless G.To enhance the Router performance Disable one WiFi Network on your Router(Either N or G) and configure Channel 11 for long range signals.
To configure said changed you need to login into Router (http://192.168.1.1 or http://10.0.0.1)Check IP address to find your router's IP address (Gateway address is the router address)Type User name and passwordDefault username and password for netgear routersUsername : admin Password : password
Goto wireless settings and disable one of the wireless network a per your requirements (N 0r G, if you have Wireless G adapter on your laptop then suggest you not to use Wireless N)Changed Channel - 11
Save settingsAnd reboot Router
Hope this helps

I have a linksys wrt54GX2 wireless G router and I would like to use it as an access point to pick up our internet signal from downstairs. The modem in use is wireless motorola SBG900. I have a desktop and...

With that particular model you wont be able to use it as a wireless bridge. You can however run an ethernet cable from the modem to any point in your house. the SBG900 i believe has wireless built into it, so you may need up with 2 wireless networks.

Hope that helps.

Weak signal 60 feet away at neigbhoor's

Some routers just don't put out strong signals. The problems could be wiring in/around/at your house or neighbors....causing weak signal. Are the signal strengths strong in your house?

We have super signal strength on ours upstairs (we have a bi-level house) but downstairs the signal is very low. All the wiring in the house and anything electronic or otherwise can block it.

Hope this helps at least some. Good luck!

Lost internet connection to my 2nd wireless p.c

Suggestion: Move your router. Your PC 3 appears to be in a 'dead zone' so to speak.

Router not working as well with D620 as with my older D610

If your router has the external antenna the signal will increase when you point the antenna in the direction where the computer is used the most. It always helps to locate the router in a central area and on the upper floors of a house because the broadcast signal falls like rain. Another trick to try is to change your broadcast channel in the router, the normal default is channel 6. Each channel broadcasts at a slightly different frequency. Hope this helps...Tennis123

Connecting WUSB100 to Wireless G WRT54G

laptops have a wide range reciever built around the screen and tend to be far better than a normal usb dongle.

The fact that your pc is downstairs will be effected a lot because the signals from the router will be bouncing around in an area around the antenna and above, signals below will be effected by floors, doors and wall partitions.

Your best solution would be to place the router on a phone line downstairs and see if the signal is increased.

Distance problems with internet.

for your signal to be stronger, you need to change your power settings on you router.by default it is set to 4. try a higher number.this will allow your signal to reach further.

my router power is set to 4 right now(this keeps my signal in the house only), but if if i want to take my notebook outside of the house, i have to set a higher power setting.
