Water is accumulating in the bottom of the freezer and freezing up to 1/2" thick. I have to clean out the ice about every 4 - 6 weeks. The water appears to be coming from the vents at the back of the freezer on the bottom. It is a frost free model freezer Model # MQU1556AEW

Ice buildup in bottom of freezer--puddle of water on floor

this sounds like your freezer is operating properly, except that the drainage of the water when going through the defrosting mode is not draining properly, pooling on the bottom of the freezer and then freezing. Check the drainage hose for the defrost in the lower pan. I would remove everything, place in ice chest, let the unit completely thaw out and then inspect. I hope this is beneficial.

5 years - no problems, then started to ice up . Ice forms in the bottom and will develop 1 to 1 inch thick sheet in about 10 days

Check drain under freezer coils and clean out. Look out for frozen drain instead of trash Use hot water or turn off 24 hrs if that is the case. I usually insert a phillips screwdriver dowm in the drain and
pour hot water on the screwdriver so the heat transfers downm the screwdriver to the ice clog.

Ice build up

You should to check the Whirlpool Gladiator Freezerator's door sealer to make sure all rubber or plastic seal very well to prevent air humidity come in to build up frost fast. Also, you have to defrost completely and wipe with cloth or paper towel to absorb all waters out and let it dry completely to prevent frost build up.

Very thick ice collects in bottom of freezer

the drain pipe you cleaned out has a p-trap that holds water. after awhile this trap will build up sludge and possibly freeze up. i recomend defrosting the drain pan again and try some way to forcfully flush hot water thru the drain. I use a turkey baster filled with water to do this. if the drain continues to freeze you may need to install a heat trap to keep drain from freezing.
a heat trap is just a piece of 10-12 guage solid copper wire with about 3 inches in the drain and the other end wrapped around the defrost heater which is the BLACK rod attached to the bottom of the evaporator coil in the freezer compartment. if you need any further assistance just let me know Peyton

I am accumulating ice inside my freezer

It needs to be defrosted. If ice builds up quickly again then start shopping for another freezer as the repair is not worth it. I cannot see your repyl due to some tech issue w/ the site, so it may be a day or so before I can reply again. Please leave feedback for me if appropriate. Thanks

Ice build up in my frost free upright freezer

I looked at the BACK at the bottom underneath of my Sears Kenmore frost free upright freezer and what was causing the ice buildup was very simple. At the factory, the assembler looped the little hose too high and when the water went into the hose it could not get out due to being too high in one spot! An ice dam will form, blocking ALL water coming through
and freezing up any more water coming down giving you a HUGE wad of ice that is scary!!! I just removed the screw holding the loop that holds the hose and put a bit of warm water down the little hole on the INSIDE (Behind the grate) to melt the remaining ice in the tube. You need to take out 4 screws and remove the grate to see this. I could not believe that this was the problem! I haven't had any ice build up since. Now don't tear your freezer apart before you try this trying to fix the compressor, thermostat etc. It may be the only thing wrong with it!
