Whilrpool Self Cleaning Range Door won't unlock

Whirlpool Self Cleaning Electric Range Model RF386PXGW0:

Used Self cleaning feature and when done got error code E1-F5 and door won't unlock. I just want to get the door open, don't necessarily need self cleaning feature or door latch to work ever again, as long as oven does.
How do I get the door open??

Try this 1. Verify error code by pressing and holding CANCEL/OFF key for 5 seconds.
Momentarily (less than 5 sec.) press CANCEL key again to remove error code
display.
2. Press and hold any key for 1 minute until F2 E0 code is displayed.
3. Cancel F2 E0 error code.
4. Program and start the clean mode. Observe to see if door locks. If it does not,
inspect the locking mechanism from the solenoid to the latch pawl and door to
find the cause of the problem. If the door is not locking, then 1 minute from the
start of clean, the F5 E1 code will again be displayed. Steps 1 through 3 will
have to be repeated before another clean can be started.
5. Once any mechanical problems with the latch mechanism have been corrected,
program and start a clean cycle (after, if necessary, clearing F5 E1 error code)
to ensure proper operation of the door lock. Immediately cancel the clean mode to observe proper operation of door unlock

Sounds like your door latch switch is defective and may need to be replaced.

I tried the solution above. The switch must be bad because
the F5E1 error reappeared.

To stop the BEEPING, I lifted up the stovetop to expose the
burners. I could see the oven door latch. It was still locked.

I moved the latch to the left with my finger. It slowly released itself.

The red LOCK light went out and the beeping stopped.

This probably means that the latch did not release fully after the oven self cleaning cycle was finished.

Hope that helps get rid of the beeping for you too.

I'm ghetting an F-5 error code on my whilrpool oven. What does this mean? How do I fix it? Thanks for your help

Hi

Error code F5 indicates that there is an issue with the door latch switch assembly; if the switch tests open then the door lock assembly should be replaced. Hope this helps...please post back for further assistance.

Admiral electric range with self cleaning oven

Hey there gcato1, your problem is actually a protective feature designed to prevent you from getting burned. The self cleaning feature runs at extremely hot temps. Until the temperature reaches a safe level, the oven door will remain latched. Be patient and the problem will solve itself.

Door will not unlock after cleaning

It usually takes at least an hour or more for the oven to cool down to a "safe" temperature and then it should unlock for you. If by morning it still is not unlocked, cutting the power (circuit breaker may be easiest) for 3 minutes should reset the electronics.

Whirlpool rf377pxg door locked after self clean

Hello- Try this first..  Unplug for 5mins.  Plug in, set clock, and push 'clean'.  After one minute push 'cancel'.  If door motor cycles and unlocks door, you got lucky. If not, then on-site diagnostics is required to solve this problem.  Technicians call 'self-clean' the 'self-destruct' feature.  Wish the solution was easy, but this one never is.   Please acknowledge this post if informative.  Thanks- Ed

When I try to start the self-cleaning oven, ''door'' appears in the display, and then the display goes to F5 E1. The door doesn't even try to lock. I have a Whirlpool Self-cleaning electric range Model #...

there are switches under the cooktop that go bad frequently. i do not recommend ever using the self clean mode in an oven. the oven gets so hot that things have a tendency to melt because they dont build stuff like they used to. there is inadequate insulation in modern ovens. use easy off and follow the label directions. it'll be cheaper in the long run, trust me.
