Compact Refrigerator stop cooling, I am out of ideas.

My compact refrigerator stops cooling. The compressor seems to work, I check the overload and the relay both seem to work. However, the evaporator doesn't seem to cool. Any suggestions?

Your help is much appreciate. I spent hours trying to figure what is wrong, but no help. Please help.

Good day,
If you hear the compressor running, then the overload and relay are O.K. It can be one of three things.
1. Leak developed in system.
2. Restriction internal in the refrigerator sealed system.
3. Valves in compressor failed, which would not provide any pumping action for the refrigerant.

None of these items are practical repairs on a compact. But if it's under warranty (under 5 years old), check with the selling dealer for warranty claim.
P.S. Does not apply if coils were punctured.

If only the compressor is hot, then it must be the defective part. Call your local refrigerator repair man and he can make a more educated guess.

It is making a tic toc noise. It is not refrigerating. The model is : Magic Chef MCBR445W1 Thanks

the noise is from the ptc overload relay located in the lower rear on the compressor, its a safety component that aids in starting the compressor and shuts it down if the compressor overheats, unplug it off the compressor and get an exact replacement and the unit will again cool and stop tick-tocking

THE REFRIGERTOR JUST STOPPED WORKING IT IS 5 YEARS OLD AND NOT OVER USED

The overload/start relay may have gone bad.
Other possible causes:
* Bad thermostat. Check thermostat
* Defrost timer. Not definite but possibly bad. Last resort.
*Concentrate on getting the compressor to run first.
Once the compressor runs again, observe the refrigerator for a while to confirm cooling.
If there is no cooling after at least forty five minutes, your refrigerant may leaked out.

Do not despair, get the compressor running first. The worst case scenario would be a burnt compressor, and that has not been established yet.

Whirlpool Refrigerator - Model# ED22LF

Tom, I would start with the overload and relay that is on the compressor, If it is white it's a good possibility that it has failed. The fact that both sides are not cooling leaves me to believe the compressor is not operating. Take the overload and relay off. If they are both contained in a white cover shake it. If it rattles, I believe that is your problem. Let me know what you find...Catriver.
